I have a small domestic cleaning business but I want to be a window cleaner because more money.
My plan is to get a van and WTP system. Was talking to someone about it and the person brought up a good point, because I'm based in East London, where am I going to find parking space?
Is this a common problem in window cleaning? Does that mean I have to use the ladders?

If you have to come on here asking such a ridiculous question its no wonder you have a "small" cleaning business.
-
i was wondering the same ,as i was down in Bath and london did not see one window cleaner and wonderd how i would cope being a wfp van mount cleaner in these busy streets ;D

lol, relax, no need to get judgemental so quickly. I'm asking a serious question. Saw a window cleaner few days ago climbing up the ladder and he was standing in front of the window by balancing himself with one hand and cleaning the window with the other hand! How dangerous.
It can be difficult to find parking space in london. Thanks for the support btw (Matthew)

ive actually been wondering the same thing lately and my city is no where near as bis as london! also whats the rules with driving on pedestrian parts of the high street? do you have to finish by 9 or 10 am or something like that?
-
The first question is where abouts in East London are you and what areas do you intend to work?
-
what's a "wtp system"
-
I'm based in Leytonstone, East London. I suppose I can work at near by areas with less people. Basically I would have to work at zone 5 where there are slightly more parking space.
will ask my landlord about this
-
I find it fine working off yellow and double yellow lines as mainly in london i target front only houses so im always close enough to the van and in daytime you can pretty much always find a space to park, its more grief finding a space in the evening in busy areas to canvass. So far in 7 years i have never been done so at a guess you will be fine. I do a lot over by whipps cross hospital and walthamstow in east london and parking is fine over there
-
Don't know why some people are giving him grief for asking the question? ???
I know Leytonstone fairly well and it's one of those places where nearly every road has yellow lines or you have to have a permit from the council to park in designated bays.
Some areas have parking meters where you can buy a ticket but adding to the hassle is the amount of cars in the area, making actually find somewhere to park hard work!
I think if you could build a round up in that area you would be looking at having to walk some of your round either with ladders or a wfp trolley/backpack system.
-
I'm in the process of giving up working in East London because both the constant parking problem and also because of the traffic. The problem isn't only traffic wardens and actually finding a parking spot, yellow lines or not, it's getting tickets by camera.
Also, a trolley system is an absolute must. Yesterday I did a job and the nearest parking spot I could find was about 300 yds away.
Having said that, getting work in the areas I work in (Aldgate to Bow) seems to be fairly easy because there aren't many window cleaners because of the parking problems.

Best get my arse to bow and aldgate to canvass the .
-
This takes me back about 35 years ... Bob our window cleaner used to leave his ladders in our garden along with his bucket ... do his days work .. drop em off and go home on the bus .. my mum got her windows cleaned a little bit cheaper for her trouble. ..... maybe summit like this would still work today in the areas u describe ... of course u have to be a "proper" windy and none of this new fangled water fed pole malarkey ;D

I wouldn't for the next 4 to 6 weeks especially down towards Bow. Not only is there the Olympics at Stratford, but there's all the Olympic car lanes.
The area is going to be one big solid heaving mess of a traffic jam.

What a friendly welcome! Not the daftest post I've seen on here by any means.
Why are people so hostile? The idea of this forum is to help each other.

its a good thing that he is the only one on this thread.
Like I mentioned, I can get away from Leytonstone or use a system where I can move it around.

I will try to avoid the ladders but I will have one just incase I need it. Seriously I was so shocked when I saw that window cleaner standing in front of the window of the second floor!

I don't mind to walk my round if they are close enough. I'm thinking just park the van somewhere close and put a sign on it that says "just parking here for an hour" or something. During day time it should be easy to find a parking space within walking distance.

There must be a way to get around it.
-
I don't think putting any type of sign on your van will make the slightest difference to a traffic warden. I don't know so much about Leytonstone but around the area I work in East London, parking spaces are like gold dust.
As for a way around the parking problem, with some customers I use their visitors scratch cards but there still the constant problem of finding where to park.
To be honest, I think your best bet is to drive outwards from London. You're right near the M11 and not far from the M25.

Traps.
I wasnt being hostile but I can see how it could be taken that way. Some posts on here are so daft you wonder how they managed to sign in to start with.
If you check my back posts you will find that 99% of my posts are helpful and factual.
What does wind me up is the way that when asked for more info and you bother to reply then usually there is no thankyou or response.
I am all for helping people but they could often help themselves by thinking about the daft questions they often ask before typing away. Most answers can be found by doing a search but they're straight in with a new topic. If they took 5 minutes to think about what they are asking then they could often come up with the answer themselves.

I'm starting to notice that more and more.

I agree there are loads of pointless posts on this forum. Lots of repetative ones also. And yes people need to use the search.
I just think you came over a bit hostile, especially to a newbie.

My advice to you is to stay away from "stupid" threads like this one. You have just wasted few mins of your life reading something that is giving you bad emotions.
I'm a newbie and I have lots to learn. Still learning how to drive at the moment.
At same time, I want to learn and research as much as possible. So if I get a trolley/mobile wfp system then that would solve the problem?
I think it would be foolish to expect to park in front of the house each time but I suppose I can always find a parking space near by? What is your experience?
-
There's nothing stupid about this question whatsoever.
Parking is the reason why I NEVER have canvassed in places infested with cars.
-
In parts of london you are not going to get parked anywhere. Round here you don't get wardens you get camera vans. One drives down my road at least twice a day. you don't even know you have been zapped by them.

For the third time.
1 Parking in some parts of London is a big problem.
2 Parking spaces are often like gold dust.
3 You will need a trolley system because sometimes you will only be able to park a distance away from the job.
4 You can get a ticket by camera.
Also, if you park in a bay, you'll have to pay the meter but some customers might have visitors scratch cards.
The above is my experience of East London.
Leytonstone is near the M11 & M25. Try canvassing a bit further out of London.
-
something like this may be the way to work in streets with parking issues, you could prob get 4 houses or an hours work out of that before refill.

Yes I have seen them working with a small trailer used like a giant trolley. It could work very well if one of our budding boffins put their mind to designing one.
Considering the size of the potential market in central london and the prices charged it would definitely be viable. a driver to keep the van moving and resupply water as required.
-
hi everyone, have look at some of the photos I took around my area and please tell me if its alright to park in some of spaces available.
I see a parking space near the bottom right corner of this picture. Is that useable?
Seem to be lot of parking space here!
How much would you charge to clean that?
More parking spaces?
I see a parking space outside the gallery but not sure if its usable.

just canvass and build up in a different area!!i couldnt be bothered with the hassle!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
leafy suburbs and country houses is my preferred choice!! ;) ;D ;D ;D
-
You could always buy yourself a £200 old banger and don't bother registering it in your name with DVLA.
You will be able to park anywhere you want and be guaranteed not to get any parking tickets in the post. ;)
And if the motor does get towed away just go out and buy another old banger and repeat the process. ;D

Is this all a wind up or is it for real?

Careful or you will get your head bitten off for asking. I did! He can use a camera and upload photos to the web but hasn't the common sense to work this out for himself. If you read through the posts you will find he hasn't even learnt to drive yet.
But hey thats what forums are for. Right?

It just that the questions seem to have become ridiculous. First he keeps repeatedly asking the same question even though replies were posted and now pictures of a road somewhere.
What next? A close up picture of a window with the question 'how do I clean this?'

Get all that out the way and it'll be what pressures do you guys run in your trolley wheels?
Oh I must stop replying or as Amazin says "It will give me bad emotions" and I dont want those spoilling my life lol.
