If you have bought a van with a Euro4 engine (Euro4 engines were fitted to vans from 2006 - 2009) you SHOULD be paying the following for road tax,,,,
12 months rate
6 months rate
Euro 4 light goods vehicles
£135.00
£74.25
The Euro engines are much cleaner running units that are environmentally friendly and meet European standards for emissions.
What our idiotic government have done is an illegal U turn on everything they set out in regards to taxing this type engine.
After 1 year of the manufactures introducing the Euro4 engine (2006), van owners who had there vehicles registered that year enjoyed paying the £135 road tax for a year, and still do to this day. Then, without warning the government decided that the revenue generated from the euro engines wasn’t enough so everybody with vans registered after 2007 were to pay £215!!!. This is despite the engine still being the clean Euro4 engine.
So all the guys out there with clean running 2007-2009 vans are being penalized, yet guys with older 2006 vans with the same engines are being subsided.
Regards
Pete

Dont forget that vans earlier than a 57 plate get charged £100 per day to drive
into the low emission zones around London.
Wont be long before they do that in a lot of other cities as well.
-
That was lucky as our small van is an 06 plate and we pay 135 quid

No it's vans prior to 03. You can also fit a filter to the system which will enable older vans to dive into the emission zone without being charged. Though in some cases can cost more than what the vans worth.

How flipping annoying is that, rip off britain as per bleeding usual (lets screw small business eh) >:( I have just picked up a 60 plate trafic and it has the new Eco2 engine with very low emissions blah blah.
Its the same tax cost as my existing 02 plate trafic (£210 for the year)!!! Maybe I should have got an 06 too!

When was it registered on the road Tony?

I have a Transit on a 04 plate (2004). This has the older Euro3 engine, so is taxed at £215.
I have also just bought a 58 plate (2008) Transporter that has a Euro4 engine. This should be £135 per year not the £215 that the U turning, rip off merchants are wanting.
