This is of interest to all members hence the post on here.
I have recently appealed my council tax banding and have won.
I'm to receive a cheque of around £1700 and immediate reduction.
THIS APPEAL SYSTEM IS FREE AND THERE IS NO FINANCIAL COMEBACK
SHOULD YOU FAIL.
The neighbour and me signed up with a firm called Money Saving Direct
on a 50/50 basis after being misinformed of the so called legal costs of
doing this and the potential legal fees of failure.
My neighbour got her money 2 weeks ago and has so far refused to pay.
I'll post a link later on the appeals process.
Note the only downside to this is they decide your in the right band but
your neighbour isn't and needs to be put up.

They could also re-evaluate the banding and you suffer an increase! A couple of my friends have had dealings with the council tax people
Council tax banding for most houses is very simple, so unless you live in a unique property it is probably correct already, or maybe even too low so keep schtum!
But as you rightly say John, if you live in a fairly standard terraced, semi or detached house and there are lots of them the same in your vicinity, it is well worth appealing if your neighbours are in a lower band :)

Check your band and your neighbours here.

Last time I checked on these type of sites had to buy a new van :'(
This time I’m keeping a very low profile, knowing what the neighbours pay. We live a hovel no gas/leckey. God forbid if water board got on to me ;)

7 houses on our road of approx 50 have gone for it.
