Title: 2" Hose & short hose runs?
Post by: Simon@arenaclean on July 01, 2012, 07:32:27 pm
Big nursing home to do over the next few days, normally I would be using a min 50ft 2" on the Airflex but it's just not practical in this situation so was going to reduce to 25ft. Somewhere along the way I seem to recall I might get better results on shorter runs with 1.5", or that there would be little difference regardless (2" or 1.5") any views?

cheers
simon

  which Airflex ?

  I'v read that the max  1.5"  ' can handle '  is 200cfm

2" hose is good for 400cfme

lift wont be so affected .

So if u have an Airflex pro it wont which hose matter at 25ft
If u have a Turbo or storm you may get better airflow with 2"

Yes John it's a storm, Logic tells me 2" but there are folk smarter than me and i'd value the insight. Thanks by the way.

The Storm is set up to work on airflow rather than lift, but has plenty of both. I would say it would be better with 2" but over 25ft you probably wont notice much of a difference and 1.5" is a little easier to manage.

On my old crappy twin vac machine 2 inch hose enabled me to use longer hose runs. With 1.5 hose attached, I didn't even like to put 50ft on. Whereas with 2 inch hose I would happily use 50ft. My machine had two vacs in parallel which would give greater airflow. Others have found that 2 inch hose won't work well on a machine with vacs in series. I don't really buy into the cfm thing as this will be hugely reduced when the wand is on the carpet whether using a truck mount or a portable.

Nev, the truck will continue to suck  ;) thats the difference between using a blower and vac motors.

But if your saying that when using a truck airflow isn't affected by restrictions, such as the wand on the carpet. Why do we all use 2 inch hose or 2.5 or even 4 to the door. Surely if the truck continues to suck we could all just use 1 inch hose because the airflow can't be reduced like it can by a porty. I recon airflow always drops significantly when wanding. More so with a porty with the lack of grunt.

Forgot to ask Paul. Any particular reason you are winking to me?

stay clear of 1.5 hose if you can.  Theres just to much restriction.

I have the Storm and have a 50ft 2" vacuum hose and 25ft 1.5" vacuum hose so that I can reach up to 75ft in total.  I've not noticed much difference if any to lift on 75ft run's.  I do find that the 50ft hose is a pain particularly when cleaning stairs and also when attaching directly to the wand.  So I now use a 15ft 1.5" whip hose on the 2" hose and it is much easier to manage and I don't seem to have lost any meaningful lift. :)

Just to bring this up to date. Used 25' 2" on the Storm and it worked a treat and out performed 1.5". I tend not use a whip hose but I do use a  12" piece of 1.5" between the 2" and wand. The 2" crush proof hose can be cumbersome and I have considered getting some from Restormate which I believe is the more flexible stuff.
