Do customers still contact you from it?
I'd have thought google would be the first port of call by just typing in what you want and where as with yell you have to go through yell then what you want and where.
There's a guy near me who swears by it .... But he does bouncy castle hire no quite the same ;D

old people have grandchildren, ask them when was the last time they got a letter from them.
I think we underestimate OAPs as being afraid of the Internet but with a lot of them its the only way they keep in contact with their grandchildren... skype & email, its not a big step to them searching google

And before you know it, it will be the likes of us wearing the nappies again, so it can only get worse for Yell.

Think yell and Thompson’s have had there day, think apple are next (give it 5 years) ;)

My dad is 78 my mother is 72 and whatever they seem to want they ring me to check on that internet thing! lol only today he asked me to check for his car insurance, just had his reminder at £385 bought it online for him for £208, when things like that happen my dad aint going to bother looking anywhere else especially yell. He's asked me today if i'll teach him to use a laptop, and while I'm at it can I look on the internet to find out how much one will cost him. Now if my dads turning to technology I'm afraid the print books have had their day! ;D

Works for me !
Pretty much gave up on Yellow Pages tho :'(
ps..if you Google Carpet Cleaner in .....anytown, Yell.com are normally the 1st sponsored listing you see on Google

I pull in £400-£600 A WEEK FROM Google... bugger paying yell..... ;D

Shaun, Yell.com the last couple of years has been really borderline for me, thing is though, you tend to get more com. Jobs From it, I'm paying £480 a year (I think) but last year I know I got one com. Job from it which was £500 so you could say that's the add paid for, but I'm crap at following up where jobs come from, so not not I had any other from it..
This year (since jan) as far as I know I've not had one job, but I could be wrong.
I been in it about 4 years running now and my feeling is it's got worse, I'm not sure anyone's using it now. It's like the dodo.
I'm surprised at the ones saying they do well out of it, maybe it's a area/demographic thing.

It depends which book you are in.
My area covers 50 miles by 30 and I live at one end so I used to get enquiries from miles away.
The Birmingham areas are a couple of miles across so all enquiries are local.
But you have to have the right ad to attract the call in the first place.

The prob with these posts is people start talking about the book, so end up with a confusing mixed topic.
Can I confirm we are talking about yell.com which is online only!?
Not the book.
The book is 'yellow pages' online 'yell.com.'
Sorry bug bear of mine.

Must say we get most of our new work from google..
Came out of the yell pages 5 years ago and came off yell 3 years..
Get a nice steady stream of work still from web sites..

Not been in the book for 5 years and have free listing on Yell only, have not seen a downward trend at all because of it. Internet searches around here? Yell are lucky to get on the first page :)
