The wonderful world of rug cleaning.
The Kirby g4. Six year old 2nd hand.
Initial vacuum clean of face of rug then flip over, face down onto ground sheets. 30 slow double passes, stopping at every 10 to peel back rug and remove debris from ground sheet.
Then I decide to check if the bag's getting near full. It's almost full and I haven't got any more on me so...
The Sebo bs46. Nine months old. Half full bag.
Again 10 slow double passes on back of rug at floor setting no.1. Flip the rug back... A bright light and a magnifying glass will reveal some dust!
Try again but on floor setting no.2. Same result.
Out of interest I got the almost full Kirby bag back out of the bin, set it back up again and did another 10 double passes, flipped the rug back to reveal the recognisable large scattering of dust, grit and so on that I've got used to with this Kirby. :o ;D
Does anyone else use one of these dinosaurs?

Hi Alan I got the G3 a bit older
They may be a bit heavy but with the tech drive it doesnt matter, I like it for upholstrey vauming and mattersses with the spiny thing adaptor (technical)
Wouldent swap mine, I love it looks like a commercial cleaner too.

Just been speaking to Kirby on the phone to order new bags (found mine in a bucket witha split 5 litre >:( >:( >:( £22 for 9 bags wasted. Great >:(. They'd better be useable when they're dry.
Kirby offered me £800 over the phone to p/ex my g4 for a G8. Then £1000 + vat. New tech drive, new brush style better filtration bags (27x filtration??
Not going to do it. It's a preclean vacuum. Do i really need to get out more than this one already does especially when I'm powerbrushing with the wet clean.
Would you uprgrade? ???

Alan I paid £57 on Ebay for mine so couldent justify spending £1800 on a new one, is that right £800 for yours then anouther £1000, my mother got the g6 a few years ago and managed to blag it down too £880 so she seems to think, but they were in her lounge selling it for 5 hours :o :o,
Save your money, how much better can it be, i believe a 20 year old kirby will suck the foundations out.
And Conrads right Ebay for all parts
Um ... I'ved just knocked an entire mug of black coffee all over my axeminster

Got an ultamate G which i use mainly for uphostery extraction with filter and view trap - 1st class for impressing customer, but of course at a cost, i also use kerstar twin motor uprights that seem to do just as good a job on carpets. 8) 8) Good thing is when you sell the kirby you will still get a good price for it have seen more recent models go for over 3/4 of their purchase price - guess the Sebo or most other units wont achieve this?
