No. I always set the pile with a pile brush after cleaning.
Then 9 out of 10 custs walk all over it before you are out of the door. >:(

This has been discussed before - I think it looks terrible, so always brush them out when needed.

Best practice as taught on any training courses is to always groom as the last step in the process. Not only does it even out the appearance but standing the pile up will help it dry quicker. If I had a carpet that showed really distinct zig-zag marks all over it after cleaning I wouldn't be happy with the finish!
I don't groom every single carpet after cleaning but always on wool. It can actually set the pile the way you've left it on some carpets, believe it or not. I don't always bother on polyprops, rarely on rentals and never on any loop pile carpets that don't show wand marks.. .what's the point!

After I zig zag a strip across the room, I'll go back with the wand and do a dry stroke in one direction. That unifies the whole carpet and it dries out more.

a lot of the carpets I clean you can only tell they've been cleaned becuase of the wand marks, most are not dirty so you can't say thel look cleaner.
on retal properties I always tell the vacating tenants its better to have the wand marks left in the carpet aa it shows the letting agent the carpets have been cleaned.

After you've gone and the carpet is vacuumed what do you see ???????????????
Sure there are a few carpets that will benefit from grooming, but the percentage of wool carpets gets lower each year.
