Bought a merlin 3 months ago in the for sale section and i wanna change the prefilter this week.. How do I go about doing the job and is there a ring seal behind the filter housing that I need to be careful with or is it a simple case of unscrewing housing dropping out the old and wacking in the new??

unscrew replace, if it has a seal make sure it does not get pinched when done back up or it will leak like a seive, wash out bottom of filter housing as normally they have a load of slime on them

Dose the filter fit both ways round in the housing??

should do

It really is as straightforward as you think it is.
Unscrew with wrench / leg thing if it's tight.

The pre filter should last much, much longer than 3 months.
I would have said at least a year at minimum going by their website that has now vanished.
I've had my merlin for just over 8 months and it's still turning out water at about 25 - 30 tds.

I thought it should be changed 3 to 4 months no matter what 'So I was told' to protect the membrane filters??
Readings are still low from ro.. tap 225 coming out at 11 before di

With clean water (physically clean not tds) you should get around six months from a pre-filter.
Saying that, I got through one in 48 hours and another in about a week before it was clogged with a clay-like silt.
My water supply is ground / surface and sometimes when it rains heavily it does throw up a few issues.

Weird one for you!!!
I just changed my prefilter but firstly the filter I took out looked as clean as the new one I put in.. Also looked different it was White but through the centre section it was dark slate type material, nothing like the prefilter I just put in ???
Any ideas please?
