As I don't do large amounts of sofas, and use a truck mount, if you're doing two sofas, would you still have the TM running or use the portly, purely on a fuel used basis?
Mr B

i know what your saying,if i get sofas that just need a freshen up i use my portable,it saves on juice and noise
i leave the porty outside and run the pipes in,the tm will always do a better job generally speaking on mingers
if your quick on upholstery use the tm
-
Why the hell would you NOT use the best machine possible if it's sitting there?!! Fuel use is nothing for a suite, it's only running 45 minutes.
To hell arsing about with all those buckets! I did a porty job the other day because my truckmount's been apart for a repair. Bedroom 8'x6' with a paint spillage, took me almost 2 hours!!!!! Nearly called in at the local tip on the way home to chuck the damn thing away.
-
At your prices I would have got a new carpet and taken that to the tip.
2hrs =£200 could get a good carpet for that

Gary,I dont really see your logic !!
By the time you have unloaded porty, filled with water etc you could have the sofa cleaned in half the time, fuel not an issue really, noise well imo a good thing ,it has the potential of attracting custys.and as you have already said better job ;D

i don't own a portable, if i can't use the truckmount the job gets passed onto another carpet cleaner... (I've only passed on 1 job this year)
i run the truckmount on low revs and open a small gate valve on the wastetank to allows air to leak in
-
You need a porty in Liverpool as so many apartments
Agree it is a pain with buckets but still gets the job done
-
actually your right geoff im talking out my arse ;D ;D
what i meant was,if your running two lenghts of 50 ft hose and 2 lenghts of solution hose to a sofa that is not dirty as such, whats the difference to sticking half a bucket of fabric rinse into a porty i hose and plugging it in,im not saying i do it every job but every once and a while its actually easier? in my humble opinion :D

ahhhh.......... Gary, now you didnt say that did you?
so yes I do agree with you, you WAS talking out of your arse ;) ;D

Using a porty in this scenario when you have a perfectly good TM is great if you want to but one thing it does do is make you glad that you don't use a porty on a regular basis ;D

Couldn't have put it better myself ;D

I used a porty on upholstery the other day, but that was cos the job was 14 floors up. The upholstery was ok, but the carpet was a nightmare. soooo many dry passes. Was dry foam an option? Whats the highest floor you`ve ran a truckmount to? Simon doesn`t need to answer ;D
-
I'll go up to the 3rd floor if i'm parked directly under the window, but this is only with a helper.... if i was alone i would'nt work above the second floor.

We occasionally run our TM up to the 14th floor of a block of flats it's a pain but easier than buying a porty we would never otherwise use
-
I do a few flats. How's this one... not high, but parked quite far away (legally)

;)Steve,
You know why that is, don't you? UCC. ;D

There is going to be alot of window chafing happening from those hose's? But then i'm sure precautions are taken? ;)
-
check my photo :) :) can you not see the dust sheet
-
So you have Mike ;D Good man! Nice graphics by the way, clever way to market the school run?
-
I thought it was some "lad" holding the hose ;D

It's amazing the length you can attain even with a small blower.
I do these granny coops, I tend to just pad them now unless there's been some leakages.

Don't you start Wynne you muppet,

TRUCKMOUNT......dont have a porty anymore..........if it really difficult to get to then say no
-
I use the TM but a portable on autofeed I would imagine even with cold water would do the job on a light to medium soiled suite.
Somtimes I think the heat and vac power from a TM is overkill on a suite.
Mark
PS. the problem with MY truckmount is it drinks a full tank of water for one suite and if theres no outside tap its a real pain.

Use TM for everthing where possible much quicker than lugging a porty to the top.
Cheers Tony

Thats next door but one to where i clean tony,
except i run mine up the stairs ;D .
I remember a 3 or 4 years ago i was cleaning a 4th floor lowered the hauled the hose up through the window realised had not brough any thing up to tie the hose up with , I asked custy if he would mind holding the hose while i ran downstairs, low and behold i,m stood on the pavement and suddenly the hose comes shooting out of the window with the end flapping away at the top, yes smashed his window ::)
He had only let go to answer his phone ;D he blamed his self :) so just the glass below to clear up fortunatly nobody stood below.

Hi Geoff.
I was going to run it up the stairs but someone was moaning about security so just as easy to run it up the outside Got arm pump by the time I handballed it up though. Give me a bell next time your over my way
Cheers Tony.

I couldn't be faffing about with all those hoses. In and out with my porty in no time. Job done!
-
What are you on about about?
You carry up your hoses as well...
TM: Carry hose up, drop out window = Setup Complete

Porty: Lug it all up, fill it up, empty it, lug all down.
Not like that I dont!

Warren don't even carry hose's up just drop a draw line out of the window and pull them up.
Cheers Tony
