hi guys.
For those of you in the know, my local ford dealer has a 07 transit connect swb lx diesel with 54000 on the clock, one years tax and mot. tidy cond, ply lined.
Sounds ok to me, is this a fair price? thanks.

Youre probably looking at something in the region of 4K -> 4.5k.
But a dealer will also be wanting VAT.

easy to find out just do a national search on autotrader for the same van ... if u find one cheaper but nearly the same ask em to price match .... if its Evans Halshaw Ford then they will :D

waste of time M8 ... price guides are useless these days with stock being in such short supply ... best price check is to do a national search like for like ... e.g. compared to the one in my link yours looks a good price esp with no vat !!

I think the short wheel base is T200 that can only carry 600 in weight you will be better off with a LWB heigh roof T220 or better t230 check this with the seller.5400 is top money for a short base. Take a look auto trades and e bay. Don`t rush into things it will cost you.

Thanks Ian, your advice is much appreciated. I think the swb should handle a 450 or 500 litre tank ok.

This good value a bit older but you could put in a new motor and still have change but 7500 miles it should be fine.

I would look for a T220/T230 LWB Hi top myself. A T200 won't carry a 500 litre tank. That tank full of water will weight 520kgs, add hose reel, battery, pump, ladders, fuel and your weight. 625kgs isn't big enough.
My son in laws T220 L LWB with a 500 litre tank (which he empties most days) Handles the weight OK although there isn't that much room left with the tank fitted.
You can also get a T220 in SWB. T220 = 825kgs

Hey thanks Spruce. I suppose I would probably get away with a 350 ltr tank on residential? Just shows how careful you have to be in choosing a van.

If my memory serves me, you've been using a backpack so you have learnt how to minimise water use.
My son in law uses anything between 250 litres and 450 litre a day depending on what area he is doing. He only does residential. He works quickly and runs his flow controller on about 2 LPM. (2LPM is only around 3.75 hours running time and that will use his 450 litres.)
I think you also have some work which is a bit of a distance away, so you will need a full tank for that. Even if you can top up on route, this option may not always be available in the future.
As I say, my experience is to buy the right van to begin with. I wouldn't reduce the size of your tank to accomodate the van you like. I made that mistake when I bought a WFP trailer. It had 3 x 125 litre tanks and those weren't sufficient to last the day residential. I carried a further 100 litres in 25 litre containers in the van (Suzuki Carry) and usually ended up using all that as well before 3.30pm.
I now have a Citroen Relay SWB with a 650 litre tank - plenty enough for the day and no, my Relay doesn't use much more diesel than the Suzuki uses petrol.

It does prove the value of the forum, I could have forked out on the wrong size van and been really stuck! thanks to everyones help I can now steer in the right direction.
