having a mate working for you probably wont make it any better richy.ive been there pal many years ago.i must have gone through 80 different lads in the 90s.most of them were a waste of time and more hassle than anything else.in the end i vowed never to employ again!!
ironically enough i earn more now than i ever did back then.due to WFP and better pricing and being super organized(most of the time!).
im also much more chilled out on a day to day basis and the flexibility is fantastic.i sold some work on and scaled down.best thing i could of done at the time as it was all getting too much for me.throw in a drinking problem and i was doomed to lose the lot and my flat.i would of ended up on the streets for sure.
luckily for me i sought help and slowly, slowly over the course of 5-6 years my attitude, health and business improved dramatically into what it is today which is a good income for relatively short hours.
"ambition can cut you down " as a doves song goes.and how right it was for me at the time.im very grateful for the round i have now and the hard work ive put into my life to get sober and stay off the drink.
keeping it simple and cutting overheads, keeping the cream work, upping prices and working hard without people who dont give a toss about my business has started to pay off handsomely now.
best wishes for the future richy

just dumped the lad who worked for me over the past 6 months. The downer was when he earned more than me on one day last week.
I Know! my fault, I paid him far too higher hourly rate. Took him on as a favour to his dad.
He was good for the first couple of weeks then got wise and didnt do frames or doors etc.
Spent the last few months chasing him up to work properly and now am much happier being back on my own and earning more money.
Hope things work out for you Richy.

understand what your saying daz about the friend thing but i have worked in past on the windows for quite some time with this friend he knows it in and out and i know the quality of his work cant remember the exact reason we went seperate ways in past may have been fact he got caught drink driving but hes excellent with sales etc and customer service he was the one that helped me originally build up to a fair size, were both older and more mature now and have familiys now hes been doing odd jobs like fencing gutters and roofing but wants regular wage coming in, he also really good on pressure washing side of things which has been left idley this year and not pushed

Probably easier if someone resigns as you have to have and show valid grounds to sack them, much less of a headache.
-
WELL HE DECIDED TODAY HE WOULDNT WORK COZ IT WAS RAINING SO I FELT THAT WAS GOOD ENOUGH!!
-
Do you provide him with suitable waterproof clothing?

I dont want to offend you Richy but you seem to have no motivation at all from your previous posts to get up n get your hands dirty. Bottom line from where im sitting for you is unless you employ a reliable couple of guys you will end up loseing what you have as you are too used to staff doing the work while you just do the managing side providing the work, you have built up the ultimate round by the sounds of it but sadly cant you havnt fojnd the right staff. I myself would be in the same boat. After building up 2 vans to the max i now only work minimal hours and even them hours i have to drag myself to do it as its so easy to depend on staff. Like i said i dont want to offend it is exactly how i would be if both my workers left. fooked.

its been a tough year mick, but im ready for the challenge i found with this employee he just didnt have the get up and go to help me build it prob coz he had ideas for building his own round so i always had doubts in my mind to really give it a go incase he left and left me in the crap!! This is a new start now for me draw a line under the last year and re-evaluate where i want to go with the business, im quite happy doing the work just hard when it now and then once i get into the swing of things il begin to enjoy it again.
its gonna take a year or two coz i have been left in the poop a bit financially but im now in control of my business and im moving forward, ive split with my girlfriend who was causing me problems and im now on medication to help deal with stress and depression

Well there you go.. Let that motivate you. Get out there and show your ex gf what she is missing by your thriving business with a smart m3 parked on your drive, let it be her loss and your gain richy. Best of luck mate.
