Title: RIGHT HAND SORE THUMB aching neck and shoulders.
Post by: geefree on May 25, 2012, 08:39:44 pm
With all the pole work my inside of thumb , mainly right hand , is really painful at times and its forming a different shape , like a bunnion... with sliding and gripping pole...

just wondered if anyone else has this as a discomfort ?

or aching neck and shoulders

or anything else?

Yeah, theres a few of us with the same thickening thumb. I noticed it a while ago amd posted on here about it. Nothing you can do really, I wear gloves and try to alter my grip from time to time but it doesn't go away.
Re the neck and shoulders, My neck is bad, mainly on the right side  :(

Try to alternate between sides! I struggle to do so, but do find it helps when i do. also, avoid looking up all the time, rotate the head / neck through 360 degrees and it opposite directions.

Doesn't cure by any means, but does help

Rob.

charge more and work less if you can and use the lightest pole you can afford.mix it up a bit and trad some ground floor work for a change.wear gloves all year round except when its hot and sunny as you ll have white hands if you do!

dont grip the pole too tight!no need!!(no double entendres please lads!!) ;D ;D ;D ;D

i have the odd bit of neck ache and sore shoulders its usually when im trying to fit in the extras around a busy week of window cleaning.its the fascia/gutter cleans that do me in even using virosol first!! :( :( ;D ;D ;D ;D

using CLX and SLX poles and gardiner brushes have certainly reduced a lot of strain from my working day thats for sure.

when you think about it even though the extreme poles are twice the price of the SLX the reduced strain and ease of use will surely pay dividends in the future.

my next main pole will be a 25ft EXTREME when my SLX wears out. ;) ;D ;D ;D

I wear dunlop biking gloves, however, because they are fingerless, part of the said area you mention is not covered by the glove material.
Answer for me...
Girls hair ties, i wrap then around the thumb about 3 times.
Bought about a dozen for 99p at my local discount store, that was about a year ago, so still going strong .
Sounds really silly, but they do work

I was watching one of Lee Burghbridge videos ... the ionics one - entitled Lee meets the Ionics man - I think.

Anyway we're doing it all wrong. Right hand on the base of the pole and work with the hips.

Like your bayonetting someone  ;D I bet Tosh has this technique down pat  ;D

I see a chiropractor every 8 weeks for a 'click' session and have now started running again after work 3 days a week.  The combination of these 2 make me 'feel' better'.

Cheers
Dave.

Get a sports massage gazza. Once a month for £30 quid. For the sake of an hours work yourself is the best investment you will ever make.
Get on a yoga class as well if you can. In fact anything spiritual where you can truly relax for a few minutes will do aches and pains wonders.
I dunno about your thumb though??
