Helping a mate start up and been looking at Peugeot Partners.
Didnt realise what good value one of these are.
Am I correct in thinking that a 600 carries 600KG and a 800 carries 800kg ?
Think they come 1.6 and 2.0 ?
Is the HDi the 1 to go for ?
Any other advice welcome :)

always get one with power steering. mine hasnt got it ,very heavy steering , absolute bugger to park in a small space

As far as I know the Citroen Berlingo is also the same as the Peugeot Partner.
The older 1.9 straight diesel engines are apparently bulletproof if serviced regularly.
Plenty of 150,000 + mileage examples still going strong.

280,000 still going like a train! the answer is yes to the 600 and 800 question!!

I have a p partner 800lx 02 with a 500l tank, (800kg payload) changed nearly every moving part on it since buying it 2nd hand 18 months ago, (but just reckon i was unlucky?) Handles the weight well, and drives good (now). BUT remember 2 add all the weight up ie: 2 men? 170kg? - 1/2 tank fuel 40kg? -500l tank & cage 560ish kg - 2 hose reels 40 kg? - batt 20-25kg? - poles, pumps/ ladders etc ????kg ?? And you'll be right on the limit! The 600kg one , a 350l max, i would say. good luck m

Hi
Earlier 52 and 03 plate 2.0 Hdi 800 LX with a side loading door in good well maintained condition will be the one to look at, either Berlingo or Partner. 1.9d are non turbo engines. 800 LX before 53 (facelift) have 800 kg payload so will do 1 operator and 500 litre tank with not too much equipment. Are treated as car derived van so car speed limits apply.
Facelift 03 plate onwards with 2.0 hdi engine +-780 kg payload and have lower speed limits.
All newer models to 58 plate 800 LX with 1.6 hdi engines are 800kgs payload (engine is lighter) and I believe are higher speed limits as per car derived vans. Suggest the 92 hp engine over 75hp. The 75 hp is still turboed with good torque - so much better performer that its predecessor, the 1.9 non turbo diesel engines.
Its essential that the 1.6 hdi engine has a good service history, preferrably main dealer as incorrect oil and incorrect oil draining procedures can affect 1.6hdi engine reliability.
PSA bought out a workshop bulletin to advise correct procedures on engine servicing which I doubt non franchise service garages will adhere to. The engine has to be hot, the van has to be level when draining the oil out by the sump plug, oil filter replaced and there is a standing time for draining - around an hour. (The preferred method of sucking the oil out of the sump through the dip stick tube isn't acceptable. Also, I believe the only oil that should be used is synthetic, so the one 'universal' petrol and diesel oil from their only 44 gallon drum won't do.

Sucking the oil out through the dipstick tube!!! Who does that?
-
a lot of modern cars have a plastic tray under the engine that can be tricky to remove to get to the drain plug ,so sucking out the oil is easier and quicker .
i used to be a mechanic until 2005 i never sucked oil out, but i know its become a popular way to get out the oil
-
Ian,
Not sure what you budget is or whether you are looking for the newer style of van.
Saw this for sale on the federation of window cleaners site.

I had a 1988 Ford Sierra (Mk1 here that finished with D plate) in South Africa and the only way of changing the manual gearbox oil was to suck it out. The gearboxes had no drain plugs. Ford filled them with autotransmission fluid (red) which got too hot and thin in the Johannesburg heat and altitude. The reconditioners made a fortune out of 'repairing' gearboxes when all they did was to suck the original stuff out via the filler plug and replace the oil with a grade that worked under those conditions.
