is there anyone out there still using Bane electric truckmounts?
it might be of interest to them that with the new developments in electric motor technolgy there is a 17amp motor that will run on a 13amp plug you can fit a motor 30% bigger and run your blower faster without popping fuses. I'm using one on a new high pressure pump and so far it has not tripped any fuse boxes or blown a fuse, cost me £280 but the suppler siad he has seen these run for a year non-stop. and they still are going strong

Mike theres a bloke down here in Swindon been using one for years(Bob Harvey) I went passed him while out walking and its much quieter than my steamway 9100 lx.....................Alan

we've two gathering dust in the garage i imagine there arent that many left, shame really good bits of kit

I`m surprised there arn`t more electric truckmounts over here now the fuel bills are so high. If I could get a tm with not far off tm prformance, I would definately be tempted. I`m keeping an eye on the new mitey electric tm which woodbridge should be supplying in the next year or so. Obviously they would be no good on the sort of jobs Simons doing but for Mrs smiths lounge, hall stairs and landing, got to be worth a look. I`m getting through £100-£150 a week petrol now! :-\
-
Jon why dont you sell them
-
Des, dont tell him that!
Jons only just round the corner from me and its handy to know they`re there if my t/m`s not working!! ;)

Any details on the ' mitey ' ETM ? is it electric vac or PD blower based ?
who makes it ??
Yes , a lot of what you read when u google bane is based on the US experience , under driven 3m on a 1 1/2 HP motor .
Not sure what motor was standard on the eurobane , but the 17 amp (3900w ) motor mentioned above would start to give usefull performance , although figures would not be huge , operating loss is said to be low relative to a vac machine .
-
Ahh , i reread ... you mean the new Mytee ETM :)
-
If I remember correctly the power of the bane was increased from the units myself and Clive had by approx 30% when they went from belt drive to direct drive so another large jump with a larger powered motor or at least running faster could be a giant improvement.
The 2 best things about the bane were that they never broke I would say I spent about £150 in 5 years in replacement bits and also they were run on one cord to the van.

great overall system alright ..
any of the stainless steel water/waste tanks out there should still be in good shape .
If i was doing up an old bane , think id like to replicate their ' permamount ' system , the direct coupled motor/blower mounted on top of the water tank , and a 250 psi electric pump in keeping with the low pressure philosophy ... and perhaps even an optional booster vac ( ametek 8.4 ?) in parallel .

My 1st T/m was a bane, i added a diesel burner, I then bought an aquamount from Shaun and had 2 banes pulling into 1 tank, then i whipped out the electric motor and fitted a Honda 13hp engine,
i still use the stainless steel freshwater tank.
i have a No4 blower which i thinking of adding one of those 17amp motor too then having it as a back up
-
Interesting setup ,
just googling aquamount there , i see they have a ' super aquamount ' using a 5HP and its 230v , would work well on an old bane , 4,500 usd before import though

Why are they not popular any more. Is it due to bad marketing or what ?.

Id say its mostly down to initial cost to buy ..
owners perhaps bought TMs for not much more
old fashioned to some ? although relevant again in current climate
Portables are making better cfm/lift numbers now at a fraction of the price ( but perhaps not always better operating performance )
-
more likely that they werent very powerful! Some of the portables today are much more powerful than my old bane.
-
As they run off one power lead there is 3000 watts of power available. No matter what system is used for vac pumping there is still only 3000w there and that includes the solution pump. That is 4 hp approx so a 20 hp tm will tend to show it up a bit.

Clive,
Convert to LPG and cut your fuel bill in half and keep the power.

Why not get a top end porty? They will have similar performance to an electric tm and probably cheaper to buy and maintain.
-
Ive got a tm and a jag the difference between the 2 is immense it's not the first 50ft of vac it's thereafter that's when you start losing serious vac and that not evening putting heat into the equation providing you want it.

They say a PD blower doesn't loose as much cfm/lift under restriction as electric vacs ...
A 5HP electric motor on a 33 blower would have only about 10hg and 160 cfm compared to an airflex Storm which has 9hg and up to 290 cfm .
But under working conditions , where the wand meets the carpet , its said the electric vacs performance dips below that of the blower based system .
Just stating what iv read , its difficult to measure ... i think the guys on TMF have come up with a sophisticated test ... the 5 gallon bucket test ! after 100ft of hose dip the hose in the bucket of water and measure time to empty . :)
Having said that ,iv read that mytee tested a 5hp pd blower etm and concluded that their electric vac etm ( i presume they mean the quad version ) gave better vacuum . But there could be more to that also , cost to produce , shipping weight etc ..
-
Most of the performance data means nothing.
The data that matters is the vac/airflow figures under load doing a cleaning stroke.
As far as I know nobody measures that. They measure free airflow and vac under nil airflow.
The real answer is somewhere in between.

the nice thing about the bane was the fresh tank was connected into the van cooling system so as you drove to the first job it heated up the water, it also had a heating element fitted so you could heat the water over night.
the tank was also insulated to keep the water hot.

They were a good design and well built, the problem was the lack of power.
