Title: Facebook...is it worth it?
Post by: John Milnes on May 05, 2012, 07:52:21 pm
Is it worth having a Facebook attached to your website?

I'm not realy a fan, but does it help page rankings and is it of any benefit to customers?

Are you running a FB page anyway?

Yes just a personal one

So you're asking if it's worth setting up a business facebook page?

At the moment, I've got 204 'Likes' on mine. I booked £150 of work through it this week, £70 the week before, and got another £70 job booked in for the week after next (this doesn't include referals, just the jobs booked directly through Facebook). This is more than I've had off my own website - which is subject to being kicked in the ar*e whenever Google feel like it.

So for me, yes it's worth it. There's a lot of people on there who will make an enquiry just because there's an ad break in Jeremy Kyle, but you've got to accept that as part of being easily contactable, people will ask just for the sake of it.

Oh, and also, I've this week added a 'Store' to my FB page, so people can see my prices and book/pay online (through Paypal) if they want. I'm not expecting to get much from this, but I think it makes things a bit more 'transparent' if that makes sense?

Many thanks Ash,

So what you are saying is that people from Facebook find you there and are booking jobs?
Are people that much into Facebook as an information and advertising media?

They can find you, or more likely you have to be in their face at least every couple of days by posting pictures, helpful info or anything else that might capture attention.

By drawing attention to your services, you can make people realise that they want them, even if they didnt before.

So what do you do.....set up a seperate FB account for carpet cleaning and then it sort of pops up for  the potential customer?

Sorry for so many questions....but when i log in to my FB account, Im flumoxed as to navigating around it....even to find posts from my family....I find it more complex than my Wordpress website  ::)

In fact it's so easy to put a FB widget on my website but when comes to FB I'm a complete dummy :'(

There are loads of tutorials on YouTube that can help you with everything you are looking to do. My advise would be to start a business page not another profile as Facebook rules don't allow you to use a personal profile for business use and can delete it without warning.

There's different ways of doing it, some people set up accounts so that potential customers have to friend request you (or accept your request) or as a page, so people 'Like' it, and automatically get fulla access to see your pics & posts (and your postings automatically appear on their wall when you make them).

Feel free to take a look at mine: www.facebook.com/floors2show

If you do a search on facebook for local "Selling pages" and add them, you can post your pics etc to their pages, whilst directing their friends/followers to take a look at your page.

Sorry Jamie, missed this post - yeah I'm using payvment too, not the fastest but seems to be ok?

Facebook, Twitter, Website, Old media - all part of the marketing mix.  Why not do them all?

Richard,
As a side-note to this thread - you're running a mobile website, when I view it on my phone (blackberry, perfectly capable of browsing the internet) it won't let me access the full site, it keeps redirecting me back to the mobile site with very little info. Personally, I'd either make this page more worthwhile, or ditch it altogether (with smart phones becoming more and more popular, and people using them more - you can't walk down a street now without seeing 4 people texting/browsing on their phones!)

Thanks Ash,

I have removed the redirect, mobile users can still use the QR to get to the mobile site.  I will have to put in an option
for the main site or the smaller mobile (it's ment to be quicker/cheaper for users to load).

 :) Richard.

I have had a company pestering me for 2 days wanting to set me up a fb page they want £99.00 + vat to set it up then providing I get enquiries and calls they then want another £99.00 + vat they also claim to garuntee me 1000 likes

I don't have a business or personall fb page I don't like fb cause of the crap people put on it but my question is this is it different with a business page as in I don't have to accept people as friends and no one can write any crap on my home page

So for all the questions but I don't like or totally understand fb

David , you can set your own company one up for £0.00 , you are in total control as you will be "admim" , if somebody post on the FB page something you don't like you can delete it .

The idea is that you post some photos of jobs you have done and a bit of info about the job etc, and keep it upto date.

Web sites are boring now, loads of different designs and styles , people know and understand FB and are familiar with the layout and style, if somebody goes onto your website they may only stay on it for a few seconds if they don't like the "look" of it, its best to re-direct them straight to your FB site IMHO  :)

no good being on facebook or any other social media if you don't know how to use them. use them wrong and you could potentially lose custom. use them right and you will get work for free and build a solid future for your business.
