You have been smashed by the "Penquin" update; one of the biggest shake ups in Google's history. Designed to combat web spam, it's hit (maybe, tens of) thousands of innocent sites too.
It looks like they have removed anchor text relevancy and replaced it with linking site relevancy. What's unusual is that rather than just disregarding the links, it appears that sites are picking up penalties as well
I don't think anyone can tell you what to do at present until the dust settles.
-
thanks gary, yes hit me hard,,,what do i do,,,thinking about scraping my whole fing web site.KINDA WISH yp was back in fashion,at least it made the phone ring, this shxt so frustrating, any ideas what i can do,,,im looking at buying a yahoo directory link, what you think.
-
yep, thousands have been hit with the latest update.... how about this for a thought!
What if someone has targeted your site? There is nothing stopping your rivals sending hundreds and thousands of spammy backlinks to your site, they could open up 100's of forum accounts and join thousands of bloggs and there isn't a thing you can do about it. You will be the one to get penalised!! Doesn't make sense. If you think that sounds unlikely, it would take someone with the right software half an hour of their time to do that.
We all know Google does a bit of a dance every now and then, it might hopefully just be a blip. Just had a look at your site and there isn't anything untoward going on, at least on the front end.
-
really gary, feck that.Just wondering if my seo company might be the problem,,,how can i tell??????????????

Google wont penalise if you got alot of links over night. They will simply ignore those backlinks. Forum backlinks are virtuly ignored anyways.
What have your seo company done for you? Dont they give you a break down of what they have done?
-
type in to google:
link: http://www.carpetcleanersdublin.ie
This will show some of the backlinks your seo company have created for you.
-
Why do you say Google won't penalise you for getting a load of backlinks overnight! Forum backlinks won't be ignored if there are thousands of them.
Ask the SEO Company if they are using backlinking software, but then again even if they are they will deny it.
Might be a case of waiting a week or two and seeing if the site comes back up. Suppose the best thing to do right now would be to buy the Google Places top ranking. Maybe that is what Google wants.

Seems to explain it :o
-
Yes thats a simple way of showing "some" backlinks to a site :D
Giving the OP some idea of what the seo company have been up too.

What happens when a company brings out a brand new product (a new movie for example) does the usual tv ads etc and the product goes viral online. Loads of backlinks, chat, social media buzz all over the internet over night. Thousands of backlinks litterly overnight.
Do these companies site/sales page become blacklisted or penalised?

Think that has been the argument as to why this update could be such a disaster. You could get penalised for no fault of your own, it doesn't make sense. As you point out, I could go and put something on my site right now, it goes viral and then my ranking drops because the links and activity look unnatural. Doesn't add up does it?
-
Yeah SEO (google) is a pain in the arse!
Been side tracked with other projects at the moment but will be returning to update my site in due course. The joys!
-
Just checked my sites and I HAVE been using dodgy software :-X, nothing untoward showing up oddly enough, but have heard it can take 3 months for links to show up!
-
Scrapebox?
Speed up the indexing process...... www.linklicious.me
-
No not Scrapebox.
Will go and take a look at linklicious cheers
-
just looked at your links on backlinkwatch and they make interesting reading most are a bit spammy looking, and the links from TMf are 'no follow' which is surprising concideringwho owns that forum and you can pay 99$ to have them changed to follow.
are you still locked into yuour SEO contract? I would be asking them some serious questions.
I'm most amazed that their are no links from other websites that Tre has done does he not do link exchange?
-
There are loads of links from Truck Mounters showing Mike.
To be fair to the SEO company they have only done what everyone else has been doing for a long time and its been proven to work. They now have their work cut out to put it right.
-
But all the truck mounter links are no follow , just so my piont is clear.... The designer of the website being discussed is Tre Allan.... whose father owns TMF, you can pay TMF so that all the links from that site are followed
-
hi mike, thanks for your input, yes your right tmf backlinks are indeed no follow. Not really sure what to do now,you think the seo lads not looking after me?i m thinking of taken a course in this seo stuff .Its hard to know if your getting screwed.
Think i ll try a get some quality backlinks myself

Not necessarily. This is such a landmark update that no-one could really predict the implications.
Although the sentiment was understandable, the method was so drastic that many sites have been punished for doing nothing wrong. You may find they roll it back a bit at a time to lessen the impact on "innocent" sites.
Gary's point is really scary.
The cornerstone of Google's search engine (their "innocent until proven guilty" rule) was that incoming links could not harm you. This was to stop competitors "spamming" your site with dodgy backlinks.
Since the update, it looks like this action is possible at the moment. One of the top (totally ethical) SEO guys has had his site attacked in this way recently and has seen it plummet.
As for SEO at the moment. Just make a really positive attempt to do nothing until things settle down.
-
thanks garry, think ive been putting cash into site and seo to see it all flush down the toilet, phone not ringing. What can you do,i appreciate all the feed back from my question, but wheres my gun lol,
