Title: How important is a decent website ?
Post by: terrymaloy on May 03, 2012, 05:07:57 pm
Just had the guy from Yell round...his annual visit.
He almost passed out when I told him I had'nt updated my website in over 6 years.
He told me it was important to keep it updated and continued to show me some examples of their website offerings  ::)

To be fair, I guess mine is looking a little dated and could do with an overhaul !

I understand the more money you spend...the glossier the website but any suggestions / tips would be appreciated and ideas on cost ?

You can view my existing site on www.cleanteamnortheast.co.uk
Any comments good or bad and improvements would be welcomed.
Cheers

Don't let people have to hunt for your number. Stick it in their face.

This advice will double your response. No need to thank me. 8)

Funny you should say that Wynne, I looked over mine yesterday and it dawned on me that the only place with my number on was the "Contact Us" page, so I've now added it to the Prices, and Special Offers Page, as well as adding it to the logo - I'm hoping this might have some effects on my viewings/calls ratio.

without looking at it.........is it on the 1st page of google? and does it bring in work? if the answers is yes & yes then its ok.... might need some minor changes (like the number being more prominant)

but if it aint' broke..... don't fix it

Don't let people have to hunt for your number. Stick it in their face.

Make sure the number is text too, not an image. That way mobile browsers can just click to dial.

A lot of websites are made in graphic design software then ported over. This results in a lot of the text being one big image file rather than actual content on the page.

Not great in this day and age. Especially since google doesnt read images (yet)

Heres a perfect example of how you dont want it http://cleaning-systems-uk.com/af/index.html (http://cleaning-systems-uk.com/af/index.html)

<h1>Home</h1>
<h2>Cleanteamnortheast.co.uk</h2>

Your page is optimised for the word Home not "carpet cleaning north east" or whichever term google analytics tells you receives most searches for your area.

Are you able to edit the page? If not ask your web guy to change this.

A website is never finished.
