Title: Putting price DOWN!
Post by: Granny on April 30, 2012, 08:27:34 am
Hi
Any one help me get my head straight?
I've got a £40 house takes me less than 2 hours trad and that is doing a really good job with the frames and doors too.
I think that is easy peasy but I'm just getting used to taking money off people. ;)
I'm still finding my feet but I think it is a bit overpriced.
I've lost two jobs since I started and looking at them now I think it may be because they were overpriced through my inexperience not greed.
Would you ever - ever - ever lower the price and 'fess up and say "Sorry I got the price a bit high for this job"- or should I just  bottle it and get away with it for as long as possible?
Thanks
G.

Yep, done it a few times.

Once quoted a large country house at £150 and it only took us just over an hour to do, so put the price down to £100 (I know, I'm all heart ;D )

Customer was over the moon. Afterwards, she told us we were the cheapest quote...the most expensive being £380!

Yes Ive lowered prices, dropped two gutters recently in price, have probably only lowered one window price that I can remember, it was £75.00 and I put it down to £60 as it only takes 20 mins. Its Georgian and I used to do it trad, which is why its so well priced with the pole.

Your £40 for 2 hours isn't enough, it needs to go in the other direction rather than down.

i priced a job once over the phone at £25. I went to clean the house some 6 cleans later and realised it was a £20 house not £25 so i told the lady that the price was going down to £20 and she said so if it is only a £20 job and your company has cleaned it 6 times that means that i am £30 in credit , i had to honour it - what a bitch!!

I've got a commercial to clean this week.40quid.offices.took me an hour first clean.it'll take 30mins now but I have to drive there and to my next job so won't be lowering price.

I've never lowered a price in 18 yrs of window cleaning.I cleaned 2 commercial this morning.60quid each.both took around an hour each.good jobs with wfp although trad they took me twice as long.I won't be lowering price thats for sure!!!! ;D

If you ever get that again just say its a loyalty scheme you run that long term customers get a discount...

40 notes in 2 hrs, that needs to go up not down, i would suggest £60.
A plumber would charge her £40 just to knock on the door

I dropped an 8wkly 3bed detached (no conny) from £15 to £12 because the owner said it was a bit high and she's struggling - as soon as I dropped it she said "that's great, think I'll have it done every month now"

If it takes 2 hours you should definitely not lower your price, you can't treat this as an hourly rate as you still have overheads and need money to re invest

So the customer was struggling, and then decided to pay £24 per year more overall? Really odd?  :-\
