There have been many posts about the  Ninja 400 psi pump problems.

This was my experience:

After about 3 to 4 months motor would stop with some evidence of head leaking.
Replace motor (£200) which was coroded due to leak and replace seals in head.
This happened on several occasions, how many times....I cant remember.
Ashbys told me not to run water a more than 50 degrees...I'll come to that later.

After being pretty peed off and becoming paranoid that every few months I would again have to spend perhaps £250, I decided to send the motor to a rewind specialist on the next occasion it gave up, which I did.
The company was excellent....they told me that the motor had stopped because the capacitor  had ceased. They also told me that the bearing seats had worn and become loose due to the work of the pump head.
They sugested machining out the bearing seats at either end of the motor and fitting bigger bearings to take the load from the pump head.
They carried out the workat £150 including fitting a new capacitor.

Sure enough, the same hapened again approx 3 months later. The motor had come to a stop...the motor shaft bearings were loose in their seats and again the head was leaking.

At this stage, I called Pumptech in the US and they asked me which motor was driving the pump. They told me that the motor was not suitable for the head as it was not powerfull or strong enough for the head and thats why the bearing seats were giving up. They also asked me what the temperature of the water was as the head is not designed to take more than 70 degrees.
I told them that both the head and pump get very hot even when water is set to 50. They said that this was because the motor was over working.

Needless to say once again I replaced the motor and seals and sold the machine.

So IMO this set up has an under-powered motor which causes the set up to run too hot resulting in either, head seal, bearing or capacitor failure (but not necessarily in that order ;D) Also set virtically the head leaks onto the motor and despite the motor having a cover it gets wet inside....not good.

The proof in the pudding being that this does not happen whith say Airflex or the Jaguar for example... eg machines with the same head and substantial motors that are installed horizontally where a leak will not ingress the motor.

Had a Ninja once where water pump stopped working. Had the same response from Ashbys ie I was running the water too hot. Bleeping hell I thought, I'd run other machines for years with no hot water issues. Needless to say I got rid of one awful Ninja machine. I just dont see the attraction with them, give me an Alltec machine any day.

The head is set horizontally with the motor
on top in mine so never any leak problems.

Scott and Sons are the guys to use - Pumptec UK agents and massively cheaper than Ashbys - http://www.scottandsonscleaningsupplies.co.uk/index.html  - they are inside the M25 in Watford
