Title: hallelujah!
Post by: g.brookes on April 28, 2012, 02:18:40 pm
i (used to) have this customer who lives in a massive house.  he got me cleaning this every two week, and his mums equally massive house every two weeks.  he was my biggest customer by far, but always late with paying.  after completing 7 separate clean without payment i stopped doing them, and couldn't get in touch with them- never in, never answering their phone calls etc.  after 8 weeks i had written the debt off (250 quid) but today i check my bank and he has transferred me the money!
hurray! now most customers i would never do 7 cleans before payment, but the job was 2 weekly and it being so much money i'd have done anything to keep it.  needless to say i wont be going back.
its amazing though how the guy hasn't even called me to explain the delay, he hasn't called to say don't come again, or please do come again, he hasn't called to apologise.  now i just find this incredible- its like i don't exist to him.  unbelievably rude, but at last, just before i go on holiday the bloody sod has paid up

I had a similar experience with a £15 every 8 weeks customer... Did 3 cleans totaling £45, chased payment, chased again, chased again letters, phone calls etc... no one ever in.

She had been a very good customer up to this point!

Then 1 year later a cheque for £45 popped through the letter box from the customer, no sorry or explanation.

Anyway I added the customer back on to the list and sent the guy who works with me to do it when he was in that area one day to see what would happen... He did them and she paid him £15 cash, didn't mention the late payment or anything - very odd.

I've asked one of my customers if she does online banking (she owes 2 cleans now with chq mysteriously 'lost in post') - "of course I do online banking-but I'm not doing it for the window cleaner"
Can you leave payment out for me if I contact you the day before?
"I've been having my windows cleaned here for 7 years and I've never left payment out and I'm certainly not starting now"

Says it all really :)

Shame you are not down my way, I would off took the customer off your hands, I really don't mind waiting for the money.

agree with this guy. commercial are pretty slow at paying 1 custy only pays once every 14 months or so but always pays up and when it comes in its a nice one to have .the job itself takes 20 mins and the price is good so i except it.

me too. window cleaners are way down peoples priority list . get used to it,  getting paid more per hr than majority of them should keep you  feeling happy

i had 2 millionaires that messed me about, the first one bounced a cheque, i didn't even get an apology, so when his secretary rang for me to clean his house again, i refused, i was told by the gardiner that he was like that all the time, when his son in law rang to get his windows cleaned, i told him no as well, i had been told that his wife was like her father, the second millionaire, just didn't like paying, i had to chase for my money every month.

i currently clean the windows of another millionaire, he and his wife are excellent, give me tip every time i clean, make hot and cold drinks, regretably they are selling up and moving to dorset.
