i get a few here and there who ask me to leave them when the weathers bad.i just say "fine but i wont be around again for a month though!!"sometimes i almost welcome it when i have loads of work to get through!!move on to the next job!!

it only tends to happen on cheaper estate work, not on my well priced stand alones on 8 weekly.it doesnt faze me as ive got plenty of work.

i can understand if you need every job if your not that busy though.

Don't be hard on yourself, you're not an ahole. Its just one of them things.

I was thinking earlier that this weather is a bit of a god-send, in that, there's a possibility it allows you to weevil the unreliable customers out.

The angle that I prefer to work by in periods of sustained wet weather is to be happy enough to allow customers to cancel if they're there when we turn up, no point getting upset over other people, but they have to wait til the next time they're due before they get cleaned, which'll be 6 weeks at least. They dont get them done before, there are other customers who do want their windows cleaned.

In wet weather we're usually behind somewhat so missing out some customers allows us to do a bit of catch up anyway.

I've dropped two this week; one didn't leave the side gate open - she's been funny with me for a while - and another has left a message on my phone that it's 'not convenient' to clean them right now; it's like a big debate everytime I phone her (I need access through a side gate); you'd think I want to install a combi boiler or something.

I think the odd customer doesn't think it's worth cleaning in this weather, but I don't want that sort of customer.

It happens, never mind.

I did get a bit soft on this during the last six months while building up the round to cover two of us but now we're there I'm back to merciless dropping... (and gaining two more every time of course!  ;D)

Hey, there's no end to my talents. I'd of told him no prob. Your [x amount ] is based on a regular clean price that fits in with my round when i'm round. If you don't want me to do it today i can come whenever you like, it attracts a [x amount of premium], what way do you wanna go with it? I've had a few saying great i'll ring you, had a few saying ok then just do them, even had some saying ok just leave it then, but never had 'my head go'. WHats it like when your head goes? Do you just get all mad and irrational?

I have a simple policy for the "can you leave it this time.." ones.

I say "sure, but if I do, I won't be coming back ever, so its your choice"

I make an exception if there's a good reason of course, like if there's building work going on.

One woman said "oh, well there's no need to be like that".  Don't know why, but that day it really got on my wick.

So I said "sorry but there is every need to be like that.  I provide an excellent, regular and reliable service, not an every-now-and-then-when-you-feel-like-it service.  I have a long list of people who are just waiting for a space to come available in my round, so I'm afraid I don't have time to messed around.  You either want my service or you don't.  You can't have it just some of the time, that's just not how I work."

She said "ok, I understand, yes you do provide a good service" and never dared to try the "not this time please" line again.

I did feel a bit bad about it after, because I was a bit harsh, but it does annoy me when customers think they can mess you about.  I think a zero-tolerance policy is the only way really.

I dumped one yesterday. When I arrived I saw a pair of hands closing windows but still knocked to check if dog was in house. No answer after two knocks so I carried on. Got everything out round back but after cleaning 3 windows a young face appeared at window to say "my dad says he doesn't want them done this time!! I was livid and told the teenager to tell his dad to get some other muppett to clean his windows!! >:(

Here is a Letter I sent our to a customer

We believe that the Ultra Pure water Fed Pole System allows us to clean in the rain and your windows will still dry out clear.
"Our Rain Satisfaction Promise" means: If you are not entirely happy with the clean after it has rained or on any other occasion we will pop back and clean your windows again.

HI Guys

I understand from Paul that he was turned away at the door because it was raining intermittently yesterday and told not to clean the windows. As you can see from the above which is taken from the FAQ page on my web site, I will honour any dissatisfied customer by coming back to clean any window(s) that seem to be of poor standard. You may be interested to know that with over 800 customers I’ve never yet had a call back.

I would like to think that you will in the future be happy to allow Paul or myself to clean your windows on the regular & reliable timetable despite the weather. As a result your white windows frames and sills will have not been cleaned for three months as it is not just the glass that is cleaned. As a rule we do not clean ¼ cleans (every three months) as we can’t offer the window cleaning at a price that the customer is happy to pay. The longer the window cleaning is left the longer it takes to clean hence we have to put the price up.

Regularity & reliability is the bed rock of our window cleaning business

With regularity customers get reliability, without regularity customers get
unreliability which results in an infrequent bad window cleaning practice.

The big question that customers want to know when taking on a window cleaner is:

“Am I going to get a regular and reliable window cleaner this time”

Please could you let Paul or myself know next time when we come to clean, if you would or would not like to continue with our window cleaning service so I can adjust my book accordingly.

Regards

Jason
