I know this is not a carpet cleaning problem, but after cleaning a suite i placed my protective sheet which was still damp folded over two mahogany dining chairs, when i removed the sheet it had turned the chairs woodwork a off white colour.
Any ideas how to remove the white stain????

Sometimes the staining disappears when it is dry anyway if not :-
This may appear to sound drastic but a good way to remove water type staining on woodwork is to set fire to it.
Let me explain : dab a little metholated spirits on the effected area, light it and instantly put it out with a moist cloth.
We frequently remove staining from hotel furniture by this method.

Did you use m/s to clean suite?
if so I would guess thats what it is just wipe of with damp cloth

All thats happened is that the lacquer has absorbed moisture turning it white. Best to leave it to dry and see if it returns to normal, if not polishing with a good furniture polish may do it.
The bit about the meths is correct. This is a trick used by French polishers to remove water staining. Takes seconds and they charge a fortune for it. It does work and is spectacular to watch. Just make sure you do it outside.

Ha Ha sounds a bit drastic setting fire but i will try it friday.
No i do not use M/S as i have never had much joy with M/s

Well it just goes to show if you have a problem somebody on here will be able to help.
Thanks Tony i tried meths and set it alight and its now as good as new many many thanks, was a bit scared to try but others did e-mail me and said it did work once again many thanks all.
