Had a job booked in for 9am this morning - got a call yesterday afternoon asking to postpone due to illness.
Immediately had a call from a Letting Agent I do some work for, to do a full house, thats good I said I have slot due to the postponement - great she says I'll book it.
Go to get keys this morning and find no one in the office, sit outside for half an hour and someone turns up and says Oh sorry we forgot to tell you that the landlady has decided she doesn't want the carpets doing.
Go to job this afternoon - empty property with customer moving in tomorrow. No answer so sit outside for 15 minutes before calling the customer.Oh Ive tried calling you but I think I got the wrong number - Ive got someone to do it a lot cheaper.Turns out she saved £10!!!!!
Get home and phone rings with a job booked for Friday asking to cancel and saying I'll call you back next week.
I dont want another day like this for a long long time.

Easy way to stop people messing you around?
Charge a booking fee over the phone... £10 secures a booking!
I guarantee once you have taken that £10 you will never experience a cancellation again, re schedule maybe...
-
And I guarantee you won't get the booking fee.
And if you press for it I guarantee you won't get the job.

I don't take a deposit but can't imagine anyone saying no ???

I guess on days like this you can always put a positive spin on it. 'What have a learned?'
I would say if you don't have to, don't work with letting agencies. They call out the blue and want you to jump, do it for nothing and then pay you only after you've pestered them a few times.
Yes, start asking for deposits most are fine if you frame it correctly.
Days like yours help you decide to find better long term clients. :)

Worst thing today commercial client didn't leave cash but I'll get it tomorrow sorry ;)

Vac number 2 packed in today and pump started leaking, looking at £300 worth of repairs.
But starting £16000 worth of supply and fit work tomorrow - so mustn't grumble ;)

Thank you Garry I've been a nervous wreck for some weeks and am just delighted to see Jaclyn " sorted "
This is a super fit youngster who played football ( very well ) did five dancing classes per week and is an accomplished martial artist.
All of which goes for nothing when our heart is concerned.
