I was wondering if people wouldn't mind posting videos of them working on maintenance cleans and first cleans if possible. The reason I ask is I know I'm using too much water when cleaning but dont know where also when I was working today I saw someone using wfp and they were really fast and didnt do anywhere near as much brushing as I do, so I realised I must be over working on the windows but I dont know what is enough so the jobs done right but not over done.

Put up a video of you working and we can help you out maybe. How long have you been doing it ~?

I have been doing it for just over a year i have got faster that when i started but after seeing this guy work i feel im still spending to much time on the windows. I will try and get 1 up in the next couple of days.

I would have thought that a lot of people wouldn't want to be filmed working for reasons of security. Social Security that is - wouldn't want it affecting their benefits! :P

I had same experience as yourself. Your probably being to meticulous. I watched a guy do a house in literally seconds and being the saddo i am i checked his work then next day, i had him down as a spash and dash merchant. Sure enough they where perfect. Try doing your own as quickly as you can and not as thorough as you usually are, you might get a suprise at the results.

Let my windows get really bad .... didnt clean en for about 4 months and then wfp them very very very quickly one pass method all dried perfect.
My house normally takes 20 minutes with 16 windows and 2 sets of patio doors did it in 8 minutes.

are you happy with what you do and more importantly are the customers happy, are you earning enough!
how many a day do you do,how much are you charging
maybe the other guy charges a fiver so as to do three times as much as you? because you charge £15.00
its not just about speed ;) concentrate on yourself not the opposition

Don't worry about this, you will see this a lot, ignore it. There are a lot of really poor window cleaners about wfp and trad. Do it your way and be confident you are doing a good job.

I have just pulled this thread back up because of a young lad I saw working yesterday. He pulled up in a sighwritten van two doors down from me after I had started, he was gone before I had finished.
I wouldn't have said it was his van.
His brush literally did not touch the entire surface of the glass. Where it did touch it only got done once. Didn't do the frames or the sills. Well, not properly in my opinion. Yet interestingly he rinsed well
You really don't have to worry about these people, they will always be there and they appear to be getting away with it.

a good rinse will never make up for lack of brushing. you need more like the other way around, that is, a proper brush, and you can get away with a faster rinse (depends on the glass type of course)

I made a video of myself cleaning, unfortunately my video camera only records 24fps so it made me look like I was working in slow-motion. ;D ;D
