Hi all,
for those guys that employ staff- at what point did it become a reality that you needed to spend more time in the office?
Did it just become apparent that your time on the tools was unproductive and it was just easier to add another guy to cover the work you were doing?
Ultimately,did the extra time gain you more work, enabling you to canvass,quote etc..?
Sorry if it sounds like a self explanatory question but on a personal level,i'm struggling with keeping up with all the admin type stuff and could do with a bit of guidance

ive got 3 staff and find im not on the tools very often, mostly in office or quoting,

Once you step away from the hands on of working for the business and bringing money directly into the business, then you become a cost to the business.  Fact.

If you need to step away from the hands on to do admin work, then you need to quantify whether this is best use of your time or whether it's better to employ a part time admin person to do the work.

I stepped away from hands on when I had about 10 staff working for me, up to that point I juggled both working and doing admin, to varying degrees.

Im still active with the cleaning and dont mind it at all(shows my team that the old man can still hack it)
But yes, I struggle sometimes with the admin.I know that we probably miss out on some work as I cant give it my full attention but we are doing ok in reality.From where I was a few years ago to now , its worlds apart, so I know we are going in the right direction.
The part time help is something we are looking at through the DWP and this just might take the pressure off enough to move forward in the direction I want so will update you here(I know others are looking in to this too)The only downside is that you could end up with a right slacker with no ambition but I'm willing to give the right person a leg up
