am i right in thinking it is some sort of scam???? £1500 just for info on franchising? or have i read into it the wrong way
-
No scam, it's the paperwork and the idea your paying for. Plus on going help.
-
Who has paid for this then??? Seems ever so steep?
-
look at how much it would cost to do it on your own :o

Well, I haven't but it seems a bit of a bargain to me for anyone wanting to start a franchise. What's the hardest part? Firstly I reckon it's the paperwork and wording of the agreement followed by finding work and the right franchisee. The paperwork is done for you from what I can make out - to do it yourself and run it past a Solicitor wouldn't be cheap anyway.
-
Spoke to a franchising expert at the franchise show in Birmingham last year. One guy told me (with a straight face) that I'd be looking at the thick end of £30,000 to franchise.
Back in the real world, just a franchise agreement is likely to sting you for several thousand quid. You're talking about a 25-30 page document full of legalese that needs to be effective and enforceable.
Makes £1,500 look very cheap to me - also includes help from one of the best-informed guys I know when it comes to knowing how to do it. If you want my honest opinion (and I've said it to Ian) I think he undercharges.

Thank you Vin :)

The thing that concerns me is all companies want different things so unless you are willing to run it exactly like Ian then the agreement would need to be changed anyway? Tell me if I am wrong as I am no expert but thats my understanding....

Indeed that's true but 95% of the way I plan to run things is the same as Ian's, so I only need to pay for the 5% to be changed. For me, that makes it a bargain.

So if I read it and wanted to change 50% I would be better off starting from scratch, to be honest I am tempted to go down this route with a non window cleaning business so really not sure how much help it would be....

A non window cleaning business? Are you on the right forum?
-
Hi George,
You're right that the contract was written to suit my particular set-up but all 'repeat visit' types of business run in similar ways: franchisees provide services to customers on a repeat basis, collect the fee and then the franchisor invoices them for the 'royalty'. The rest of the contract is concerned with things like franchisees obligations, franchisors obligations etc. As Vin said he only needed to alter about 5% to suit his purposes. Of the other 8 people who are already running my system, no alterations at all were necessary - the contract is written in general terms that cover almost any evetuality you could think of.
