Title: Carpet Pest!!!!help
Post by: cleantech on April 16, 2012, 06:12:45 pm
This is a new one for me...i was at the vacuum stage of cleaning when i moved a small cabinet to find the carpet eaten away by something. I lifted it away from the gripper rod to find ants around the skirting board. Plan was treat with an insecticide once cleared with the costumer. So i thought lets just clean the carpet for now and come back to 1/ the ant problem 2/ whatever was eating the carpet. When i stared to pre-spray maggots started to suface ! lots of them. any ideas? i have since blocked the ant entrance / exit and treated with an insecticide. even as i was spraying the insecticide the maggots continued to appear i would extract them off and they would appear again.....I am thinking carpet moths larvae and the ants were after the maggots??????? thats my guess any help?

I hear you but i would rather go the extra mile to please the costumer than leave them alone with the mess

There's a huge difference between carpet moth and maggots.
The moth larvae looks like a grain of rice that through vibration might just raise itself above the carpet fibre (natural fibres only btw), a maggot on the other hand will crawl and will need a dead food source other than carpet to live on.

Ok so lets just say they were maggots which i am almost sure they were...what were they doing within the carpet and what did eat the carpet?

And what pattern is that?  If people cant be bothered to use the search button I can't be bothered to type out stuff I've posted umpteen times before :)

I though it seemed you'd already identified what it was, a bit of further reading on your own initiative would have answered a lot of questions :)

It wasn't intended to be sarcastic, sorry if that's how it came across... looking at the time of post I was probably tired, hence no punctuation or smilies.

Hi,

For moth proofing and any other insect pest, I use a product called "Constrain". It will kill anything that crawls, but is safe to use in the home. It is a product used in museums etc.

More information at:  www.historyonics.com

I think treating maggots & ants are completely different tasks. You must contact a good carpet cleaning service provider.

I like this Cleantech bloke  ;D

I'm not having a pop at you but how come you can be a 'green' eco cleaner but then use an industrial pesticide when it suits you or the eco loving customer? To me that is a contradiction.

It just confuses me, its like being bisexual, one minute you're chatting up some bird and giving it the jack the lad lines and telling her how much you like to suck rugs, the next you're in the Blue Oyster Bar dressed in leather looking for some serious man love and trying to get hold of someones wand. My old mate Adam in Surrey had the same issues. Don't see him on here much now, think he is having therapy.

Just pick the one you say you are and stick with it, and anyway if you are truly Green you should have carefully removed all those maggots and rehoused them in a large meadow with a little stream running through it.

I agree 100%. Although he doesn't behave like this on the other forum where he is a moderator. He has a much different tone on there. Seems he just frequents this forum to use it for sarcastic off the collar remarks. Another thing, why have a stupid face avator on here and a normal nice photo on Cleantalk. You need to start treating  both forums the same....

You ARE a troll, no one is that ignorant as to join a forum and be an arse from the word go. Maybe your piles are playing you up, certainly affected your sense of humour anyway.

Ha ha funny guy...Green cleaning all the way for me....but i have a proffesional line of stock that i use whatever the case. I have certification that allows me to purchase such Industrial products if required. I wouldnt last long if all i had in my arsenal was some collodial cleaning solutions like some guys on here. I clean with what is required and most cases MS will suffice if it wont I have the big bad chems aswell
