Well we have gone into an official hose pipe ban on domestic properties, in the southern half of the country and has anyone been affected, if so how?
On the 4th of July the ball game changes again and we potentially enter a whole new realm, where I amongst a lot of other operations, some having nothing to do with pressure washing will be affected by Drought orders coming into effect.
As a commercial operator I have made serious plans for July the 4th and intend to have a fully functioning waste water recovery system fitted into the work/s vehicle/s.
This is being road tested, will be expensive, bespoke but will be (for the manufacture) the first of a new line in recovery units.
I am so convinced - as I said on one of Mikes posts that this is going to be an ongoing issue I an swallowing the hurt now and making it an integral part of all future work/s.
What are other/s doing, where are we all at??.
Rob ;D
-
Rob,
Exempt at the moment like most down here.
The July 4th issue will be a problem, but these water companies need 10 weeks to get this through government, so they have a week to go to decide if they are going the full blown drought order route to meet the 4th July date, so it should be national news that the order is going to come in. Already booked up past that date at the moment, and I can't see my clients not wanting to hear that the work can't be done.
-
I was working in Slough last week and am going back down there tomorrow, probably till Thursday.
Someone went into the store and said 'how come you can pressure wash and I cannot water my garden'?
They had no idea what to say so it got reported to the manager and he said don't worry about it.
i have since written up a full explanation, he now has a copy explaining it properly and so will all other client/s - the last thing I want is someone spooked by not knowing the facts.
Another old boy - spoke like you Roger - plum in his mouth said to me ' is all this pressure washing necessary - won't the rain clean it off'!!!!!
Rob ;D
-
What are you going to do Roger if Drought restrictions are imposed??
Rob ;D
-
Similar approach to yourself, however recycle system will be trailer mounted - even for 18ltrs / min, filtration system will contain 'standing' water hence additional payload. What level of filtration are you looking at achieving?
Current stance with Violia if it changes to drought order .... even recycle will not help.
Other water companies seem to be warming to the recycle route.
-
Mike
Down to grey water - no particles at all!!!. My primary concern was the pump and unloader valve.
I know Veolia have a stance but I am really expecting to use only the same water, from before the restrictions I cannot see how they can enforce and I feel the showing of the recycling will negate any arguments.
I know they are struggling to minimise it to fit it into my vehicle.
Rob ;D
-
Rob,
"Plum in the Mouth" are you having a laugh, I'm originally from the East End of London, just lost the accent over the years.
Re what I am I going to do, I can still do decking & furniture without water if I really had to.
Most of my work after the July 4th date will come under Thames Water, not Veolia and I'll argue the point that they (Thames Water) happily put on there emails, "Proud Suppliers to the 2012 Olympic Games", what crap seeing as there is a ban and then possible drought order in place.
For me the 2012 games will be a farce, nightmare, London traffic will be a joke add at least 2 hours to journey times.

Ok... that answer doesnt make sense ?
-
Roger will hide in mansions and never get seen, grumping away about the French owned water companies and our spinless government and before he knows its its Christmas and has rained for 4 months ;D All of this is because the tree huggers moan about the water levels in the river which only a few months ago burst its banks and washed a town away ;D
Out of interest what does a recycling system cost ? I suggest Viola buys us all one ::)
-
Mike
No solids in the water, sand filter, settlement tank, self cleaning filter, hydro vortex filtration.
Carl - I have no idea how much it will be. I will make sure it fits around my system and then worry about the price.
Roger - you don't fool me with - I know you took your cravat off when I came over to pick the machine up ;)
Rob ;D

Mike,
Rob is now obviously working down South from is original post by the looks of things and has hit the problem me, you and a few others on here have addressed, my point is that I don't work only in the Veolia area and a lot of our work is and does come under Thames Water, and the point I was making is that on the email I got from them last week is the footer in their email stated how proud they are blah blah re 2012 games. For me as a Londoner trying to work the London area at that time will be a pain traffic etc, but they Thames Water state that how happy they are to to a supplier to the games as in water, but want to stop/prohibit everyone else from using water/hosepipes at the same time, please don't tell me that everything won't be clean and well watered for the games. It's a joke.

Carl,
Only agreeing with you re the moaning, and you do like to have a good moan.
We work 12 months of the year so if it rains for 4 months even behind the gates of the mansions we work in I might just of noticed ;) it does actually rain on the rich & famous as well.
-
Roger - you don't fool me with - I know you took your cravat off when I came over to pick the machine up ;)
Rob ;D
No it was my smoking jacket that I took off, anyway enough of this where did I put that bottle of expensive Claret.
;D
-
Wow that must be some Lwb Transit ;D ;D
-
Roger - my remark that doesn't make sense was to Rob as greywater contains particles
Rob - From your representation to the water companies you would of received an email response - fully explaining water situation simply pass to com clients.
-
Hi Rob, we are not effected by a water shortage in this area yet but i am very interested in the system you are developing, my question is i can understand how you can recover water whilst using a FSC but what about when using a lance which can be for a large proportion of work done, also when using a FSC what percentage of water is actually recovered as a lot must be left in the nicks etc, my final questiobns on the system are what will be the running costs of the equipment ie is it run from a generator and finally what diameter and lengh of suction hose are you intending to use on the system as i can see this being the major draw back of the idea due to blockages and amount of hoses to arrange.
Well done for giving it a try though and i hope it works out well with the large invesrtment you are making, i would love to see a video of it in action

Mike
There will be suspended solids in the recycled water but of such a small state they won't affect the pump or unloader. The end result will not be rinse quality water, so you cannot rinse off glass and vehicles and leave it. Additional work, by hand needs to be applied.
My primary concern was always the pump & unloader and the quality of filtration from the supplier was already in place, in other applications.
I haven't even seen any spec, don't know dimensions and have no idea how much it is going to cost. I know if I cannot work it will cost a great deal more.
From discussions the pick up unit (hoover) will be brought as close as possible to the work/s area and it will be the back to filtration hose that will be the longest hose. They tell me that the pick up cannot vacuum 100 metres (this is my average store side) but it can discharge in excess of this measurement.
Trevor - that bit is easy - you must have seen the spill socks that have vacuum holes in them, just create a circular barrier around the work area. Anything like gutters will be cleaned by hand and anything else where the water cannot be collected will not get done - no choice on that one!
For me the dimensions are critical and I think this is the part they are definitely struggling with, I don't want to go back to towing a trailer.
Rob ;D
-
Bit sad but find this an interesting topic ;D Rob totally understand reason for not going back to trailer ...I am not looking forward to it, only other option for myself is a second van purely for recovery. Did you get a response from the states ? We enquired about the HM add on unit they suggested additional unit in conjunction to their std unit ...I almost fell of my chair when I saw their solution ;D ;D
Surprised to learn recently two local national car wash centres have not used 'filtered' water for over 2 years.. supply simply drawn from settlement tank this includes final rinse! They have suffered no pump problems, obviously the pumps they use are large. We are working with the guy who designed their static system.
-
Mike
It will be interesting to put the two approaches together - as soon as I have something to look at!!!.
There is a water reclaim unit on Ebay, sitting at £10 000 - for a car wash - if you have the space I am sure it could be used.
I am getting a lot more from this development than I want to admit to on an open forum.
As soon as I know more I will post more.

Hi Rob
Is this the kit from Whale that i pointed you to, i know they are good but expensive.
Seen the fsc vacuum system in operation its really good
Cheers

Dear Mr McLean,
Currently we do not have a date for when a drought order may be introduced across the region.
The categories of use that may be prohibited under a Drought Order are:
1. Watering outdoor plants on commercial premises;
2. Filling or maintaining a non-domestic swimming or paddling pool;
3. Filling or maintaining a pond;
4. Operating a mechanical vehicle-washer;
5. Cleaning any vehicle, boat, aircraft or railway rolling stock;
6. Cleaning non-domestic premises;
7. Cleaning a window of a non-domestic building;
8. Cleaning industrial plant;
9. Suppressing dust; and
10. Operating cisterns.
As you correctly say, health and safety will still mean that certain areas will be able to be cleaned, if for example they pose a trip or slip hazard.
At present we cannot comment on what the restrictions under a drought order may look like or the extent to which they may affect your business. The severity of any restrictions that are introduced as part of a drought order will depend on the weather situation from now onwards.
We will of course ensure that all of our customers are kept informed of any changes to restrictions at the earliest possible opportunity.
Response from Thames today - it did take them two weeks to reply!!

Rob,
Have you purchased a Vacu boom yet ?? Got a quote today from Uk supplier £1400 +vat - 6m length ???
You can buy them in the states for less than $1200 - they are uk made!

Going back up north tomorrow afternoon, site visit to Southport on Friday and then drop into the company doing my set up Friday lunchtime.
Will see what add ons they have then - did you sort out the roof clean?

Welcome to the joys of working down south at the moment Rob.
They won't have a date as yet as they are only just reaching the 10 week period they need to get the order through parliament to meet the 4th July deadline.
-
Will be putting forward the argument on water reclamation and see how they take that.
Rob ;D

Rob, How is the trailer setup going ??? :P
