Hi
Im looking at getting someone to help for 1-2 days a week in the near future so i can have more time for leaflet drops ect. plus it would be good to dip my toe in empoyment before jumping in with both feet but i have a few questions
What does a part time employee cost employers insurance ?
What does a employment contact cost will i be able to use one contract for both part time and full time employees ?
how many week holiday a year for 2 days work a week ?
Thinking about paying £8-9 per hour for 6 hrs a day £96 for two days what would i have to pay the hmrc & ni for £96 ?

1. Not sure call your insurance company explain the craic and see what extra they'll charge
2. YES .. you can use one contract you'll just need to adjust the contract for full time / part time
3. there are 8 statutory bank holidays per year .. entitlement for some working 2 days will be 2/5ths of 8 ( the 5 is for someone working the standard 5 day week)... not totally sure on other holiday entitled it direct.gov website will give you all the info
4. NO.. the limit i think is about £114 per week before that kicks in
ive just taken someone for min 10hours per week... why do you want to take someone on to do work while you deliver leaflets??... why not take someone on @ £6.50 p/hr to do the leaflets and other stuff?

2 - Get one set up properly. Local Business Link or maybe even Job Centre Plus may help.

4 - You are planning to pay over the odds which is naive. I understand you want to pay a fair days wage but if leaflet dropping why not consider minimum wage + small % one off commision for all jobs secured via the drop.
5 - All payments will have to go through payroll.

I employ a part timer. 16 hours a week (2 days)
Public and employ liability is about £300 a year. Gleaming insurance

Liability Insurance tends to be calculated using turnover and wage bill.

Thanks for all the replys i have not decided what way to go yet i have three options
1, get some one to help oin the windows a few days a week
2, employ some one to do x amout of leaflets per week or
3, get some one that is self employed to deliver the leaflets with a gps tracker not sure how to put a self employed worker threw the book though ?
Do i just need to get them to give me a invoice for the work they have done
what if they are not registered as self employed would i get in trouble with h m r c ???

wouldnt start anyone on £8-9 an hour. much better to start them on a lower wage. you can always put it up when they've earned it or are hitting targets.
much better to start them on min wage and give them bonuses for performance after their training period.

THATS TRUE- paying 8 or 9 pound per hour is a sign of weakness, they know it and will milk you for it too.
best to pay 7 absolutely tops ,thats good money these days . bear in mind a lot of parttimers work below the radar , many on 4/5 quid an hour .
over the last year or more iv employed partimers,its taken me a while but iv now got at least 2 good ones . the benefits of taking on partimers only are many. if one starts playing up,you can depend on the other 1 ,then the messer knows he cant mess cos you will get a fresh worker,if that makes sense . i have a 4 day partimer and a 2 day partimer at the moment ,and will add to it later this summer with another 2 or 3 day partimer ,to share the load
i also have 2 partime leafletters on the go each week , they are harder to handle ,i find they get bored and then start skiving off is my experience ,never bothered about being sacked either
