Title: Oops, what a lummox; me and my size 10's!
Post by: AuRavelling79 on April 12, 2012, 09:02:14 pm
Here is a letter I have just received from a long time regular custy:-  :-[  :)

Dear [Gold]

Re: Window Cleaning on Wednesday 4th April 2012

I have enclosed a cheque for the outstanding balance of £11.

However, I am writing to complain regarding the fact that when you cleaned my windows on 4th April, you inadvertantly tread (sic) on the shrubs in the front garden, and in doing so, snapped quite a few branches off (lavender shrub). I was upset about this, as they are costly to replace.

I appreciate that in order to reach the front windows you must tread between the shrubs, however I would request that in the future you kindly take more care not to stand on them.

If you are unable to manage this, please let me know, and I will arrange an alternative window cleaner.

Yours faithfully,

Ms Custy

As you know that is my default setting tripster!  ;D But I'm trying to be less trigger happy; although I am tempted to give her a flea in her ear about how when I trod in her cat poo I didn't send her a stroppy little letter! I'll let this one slide.

In all honesty the letter is fair enough - it's the little barb in the last line that irritates.

Ne'er mind I have just picked up a £22 (yes really) from a pleasant chap and his lovely wife next door to one of my outlying jobbies so that makes it worth while.

in all seriousness, the letter was indeed fair enough,up to the point of the last line.
And for that reason i would be out

I very rarely get that in writing but verbally a few time, you know the remark we may need to find someone else, or there was a chap round knocking doors last week left his card :D If I am in the wrong I say no problem I will be round tomorrow to sort it out, other wise it is give him a phone then, I doubt he will put up with your nonsense, then they either backtrack or you lose them, either way I am happy, not that it happens much, once a year at most.

but in this case you trampled her plant just say sorry and crack on, unless it is impossible to access without ploughing through her plants, if that is the case my reply would be getting wrote right now.

Well put, if the boot was on the other foot and you were not happy with someones service wouldnt you say to them you would change if not sorted? Dont know circumstances of the plant but obviously never been an issue before...

Last year I beheaded about 20 tulips with my hose as was pulling it down side of house thru the flower bed.

Done the decent thing and put them in the brown bin ..... at next house around corner  :o

a bit sarky at the end, I don't think I'd dump her for that though. People say all sorts of silly stuff, thats just what people do. Perhaps request that she keeps her bush neatly trimmed to keep access open!

You wimp Gold.  You should go for breaking a few really expensive flower pots.  If you're going to mess up, do it properly.  None of these half measures  :)

It's not unreasonable really for the customer to expect you to take care when cleaning, she is only pointing out what she wishes you to do.She,like many others (including myself) may have spent a huge amount of time and money on nurturing their garden and maybe get a little upset when things get damaged, accidentally or not.
Just apologise and let it be an end to it,especially as she is a long term customer.

lavenders £1.99 at local nursery; hardly expensive. They get all horrible and straggly with age anyway if not pruned properly so probably time she replaced them ;D
I love gardening but it really annoys me when people plant shrubs right by windows and expect you not to damage them!
I wouldn't dump her for that but she'd be 'on probation' for the sarcy last line!

if your using a pole system surely you can avoid the plants!! ;D ;D ;D

ive never had a letter/email/text of complaint in 18 years of window cleaning but i would of phoned her up straight away and apologised and offered to buy her another plant out of common courtesy.

Isn't Lavender something that just grows back if you break a branch or two?

Think I've snapped more plants when hoses have got caught round them than I've trodden on when doing trad to be honest. However, I just get the secateurs out and tidy them up so they would be unlikely to even notice ;D
