Noticed on a house I clean,an upstairs window has an oily film as it dries,I scrubbed it again and rinsed a lot made little difference is it soap residue from trad?
-
Anyone?

pure water does not clean oil based dirt , you need to get up there on a ladder with a scrim / razorblade to clean up oil slick before pure water will clean

I have been doing a house for a couple of years with a similar sounding problem.
It feels like when your scrubbing the windows they have a greasy film on, i can scrub and scrub but when the windows start to dry they sort off mist over and leave streaks in some windows, its mad as its the only house in over 200 i do that does it, customer said she has always had problems getting the windows clean before i came along.
It would be good to hear if others have had the same problem as it does my head in, customer is happy but i ain't!!

i use a bottle of spay soap elbow grease ect spray some on brush and turn on pure just a little and give good scub, then rinse.rinse.rinse
-
Surely not actual oil is it ,just looks like a rainbow film as it dries on an upper window ,would rather not mess around with ladders and scrapping if not needed
-
Il try the soap although I originally thought it was due to heavy soaping from trads over the years
-
using a litte soap is fine as long as you dont let it dry
-
Just a thought but why not try a squirt of virosol first direct onto the glass or via your brush... It's a very powerful degreaser and should work...
Cheers

I've always got a tub of virosol in the van but never thought about it!!
I will give her windows a blast over with it next clean and see what happens.

Good old fairy will smash the grease up, just trad it the once, maybe even use a scraper, then wfp it there after
-
I've a few like these; I just clean them with the pole and move on. It can't be anything serious, 'cos I've had zilch complaints about it.
I don't think we need be too paranoid about it.

i have a window in my conservatory the seal has gone and this has a rainbow effect but it is between the glass :)

squirt a bit of virosol on it then wfp as normal with an extra rinse and scrub and itll come up fine! ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D
i use a 5l pump sprayer from b & q (£15).pump it up then just aim and spray then wfp.works a treat for windows like these.
