I know a bloke who use's Santander, says he's used them for 2 years and no charges. They send him prepaid envelopes for paying in cheques. I was considering them after my run in with the nationwide.

Check which tariff your on with Lloyds, I'm on a electronic tariff and pay around 18 per month, Don't pay / withdraw cash they really sting you on that.

Santander is free for ever as long as you dont bank over the limit i think the limit is 100 cheques a month and £3000 cash a month each extra cheque is charged 50 p

CO-OP is free through the federation of small businesses (think membership is £120 per year)...
However as a member you get access to all sorts of other deals etc,,, legal advice / cover etc...
The system is like the santander one in that you pay cheques in via pre printed envelopes.... dont worry if there is no coop near you... you can do through a local post office of your choice so long as you stipulate which one..
cheques and cash take about 3 days to show on your aaccount.. you also have the usual online facility stuff like the rest..

been with santander for nearly 4 yrs, only use it for my cheques, they charge me a fiver if i dont bank over £1000 in one month with them, as i only use it for cheques i never hit the £1000, so £60 a year is alot cheaper than the £300 i was being charged by rip off barclays.

it was free for life (100 cheques a month etc ) , up till the 1st of jan now they have gone down the same road as all the other banks... good luck in your quest ;)

Firstly, it's not all about what is free forever, cos nothing is ever completely free.
£40 to £50 per month charges?!!!!! You must be paying in 10k plus per month to get these....
bank charges are tax deductable though :)

The latest Santander fees are £7.50 per month, unlimited cheques and bacs, and up to a grand in cash per month.
I know this because we have just opened a business account with them in the last 6 weeks and found this to be their cheapest business tariff

My 2 year free banking about to run out so off to HSBC later today to see what they can offer if I switch.
Dont fancy paying bank charges unless I have to :(

Then you need to speak to them and get it sorted, sounds like you could get a rebate. Check your charges invoices you get each month and make sure it is right. It is not unheard of that a cheque pay in may have been entered as a cash one which will be higher :)

Personal bank accounts are FREE ;)
Until you start using them as a business a/c.....without starting up the topic again, most banks are now looking at this situation very carefully. ;D
