Title: Done with Hoselock fittings
Post by: Sean Dyer on April 01, 2012, 03:53:10 pm
As title says i need an alternative

I want to bolt my reel down in van and am going to put a roller in floor of van to take hose through floor and keep everything locked up

only trouble is hoselock connectors blowing under pressure all the time , what is the alternative

I need a  fitting that goes onto the thread which the male hoselock parts screw onto , for the inlet/outlet of my pump box and for the hosereel outlet where i currently have a hose lock

Make sense? I just dont know what the alternative would be and how i would rig it to existing fittings??? Also would i need different size hose from tank to pump box/pump box to reel and currently its 1/2" hose

Thanks

i think its hard to beat good quality hoselock fittings - the only time i have had trouble with
fittings blowing off is when the pressure setting was set to high on the varistream
if you reduce this cut off to a lower setting the pump will stop quicker and not build up the pressure looking for a dead
end connection

i agree hoselocks are ok only have trouble when one of the tabs break but they are cheap so always changeable ,  if you have outside ports you can work with van locked up just a thought  :o

i have done that but id rather not as i like the pressure and flow high

its more that the hoselocks , particularly on the hose reel , leak , so i dont want to fix in van with leaks...

Thanks gav i will check em out

I have persevered with hoselock , ive been through plastic ones metal ones, heap ones dear ones , all turd

Sick of em now

I use brass locking fittings you can get them from b&q about £5 each hoselock are poope and do not last imo more so if you have to connect and disconnect alot.

this is the problem , because they leak im de pressuring the hose reel every job before it goes back in van so they are getting worse, catch 22

Pro metal hoselock fittings are good. Haven't had any problems with them, and I use hot.

I guess you dont disconnect very often as I found these to be just as bad as standard hose locks just cost more, I dont mind paying more money for things that work, thats why I changed to brass locking ones

I've got a fixed reel so don't disconnect. Seems to grip the hose a lot more. Where is yours leaking from? The hose end or the o ring end?

Think your problem is to high pressure as said before if you are running your pump flat out or as close to .

When you turn water flow off with pole hose tap your connections will blow off when the pressure builds super glue might keep them on but you will be lucky .

What is ur cal setting at and what is ur flow rate setting .  Mike

I don't use a fixed reel, so I'm connecting/disconnecting all day, 3 months using these and still no leaks :)

Have you tried changing the little black gasket on the male / hose reel fitting ?

Could be you've got air in the system - your controller won't stop if you have, until it blows a connector off. The air keeps compressing whereas water doesn't.

Hoselocks normally work ok under a bit of pressure but if you have any before the pump then my advice would be to ditch them.

Hi

Maybe you can get a 'Geka' claw fitting to work (not sure what your reel is). I am slowly replacing my brass hozelock fittings with these (space permitting) as I have had them on the back of my trailer for 8-9 months and have not had to replace a seal once. Hozelocks kept leaking with taking them on and off and it was really annoying. My mate pointed out that you can get hozelock style hose connection ones now (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hose-Connector-Geka-Style-Coupler-1-2-1414-/180825995786?pt=UK_Home_Garden_GardenEquipment_HandTools_SM&hash=item2a1a11ba0a). Found out about them originally through this forum with a search.

Thought it was the time to stop reading and start writing tonight (^_^).

Hope that helps anyhoo.

Simon.

ptfe tape?

on what?

You cant tape the hose lock male female fittings only the threads but they dont usually leak
