Title: Don't want you to come if you use that pole thingy
Post by: Perfect Windows on March 26, 2012, 04:14:19 pm
Call on Saturday.  A woman looking for a new windy as her windows are terrible.  "But I don't want you to come if you use that pole thingy"

I asked her what the problem was.  She said that her current guys use WFP but leave the downstairs windows covered in drip marks.  I point out that if you rush to the downstairs too soon, there'll still be water dripping from upstairs and the finish may not be perfect.

"But they do the downstairs first" she replies....

I was utterly speechless.  If you knew me, you'd know how rare that it.

And the punchline?  She's coming over to us and if her windows are good, her sister and mother both use the same guys and will come over to us as well.  Trebles all round!

Good to hear you convinced her to change.
I got asked by someone enquiring today which method I used to clean windows.
When I said I use wfp she told me they already had a window cleaner that used that method and the results were appalling.
She said the rear windows always have run marks because the window cleaner told her the water dries too quickly with the sun on the window.  ???
I politely mentioned that her window cleaner deserves a bo**ocking!
She told me she now wanted her windows cleaned with the Traditional method.

So Andy M did you? ....

A) Say: Let me do them my way and if you aren't satisfied then pay me nowt.
B) Say: Ok, I'll do whatever you say because I'm desperate.
C) Say: Go away!

It was a "through garage" access property so I didn't really want it anyway Gold.
I did point out to her that the window at the side of her property would not be easy to clean by a traditional window cleaner because he would have to stand on the pitched garage roof to reach it unless he used a trad pole.
However if I had wanted it I would of opted for Option A.

In fact now I keep thinking about it I wish I had offered to clean them for her once to show that wfp is not the problem its the monkey thats cleaning her windows!

I love it when canvassing if they have had a poor experience with wfp, I always and I mean always get them to give it another go.... The system works, its the bloke at the end of the pole thats the problem...

Can't understand anyone having a bad experience with WFP. You just whack the flow rate on as fast as you can and scrub and rinse don't you, what more can you do?

Worst place for bloody run's is the middle of two top opening small window's, it run's onto the middle of the larger pane below. Scrub that wee space a long as you like on some window's but the water still find's dirt under the frame and seal that will drip drip drip long after you have gone, straight down the middle of the glass. You can try and not touch the space between, but that is even harder too do.

I think its a case of wording .. What you call spotting another person may call runs or streaks

At the end of the day the main point is that the finish has not come up well..

I have seen spotting and what I will call streaks down the glass

The streaks is where the glass is water loving and has gone down the window... Spotting is where the glass is not water loving ( sorry cannot remember what the different names are ) and as it goes down the window it leaves tiny droplets of contaminated water that dries into spots where as the glass thats water loving goes in a continuous run all the way down the glass

hope that helps  ;D

I often find aluminium framed windows can leave milky run/streaks, they need more attention than plastic/wooden ones IMO.

That type of run is commonly known as 'the classic dribble'; c'mon, get with the lingo.

You can try and not touch the space between, but that is even harder too do.

Only after a couple bottles of Buccy.  If you're sober (if ever; I know what you Jocks are like), it'll be much easier to avoid the space between the top panes.

with my regular work ive got to know the little probs you can get on certain windows
and types of frames and deal with accordingly.

on new cleans i squeegee off what i suspect will be problem windows ali and old plastics
only on ground floor, cant go against health and safety ;D.i tell the customer what i have done
and why i have done it do it for a couple of cleans then carry on as normal
