Well converted a 421 to run on reclaimed bio gas but the principle is the same if you want to run it off propane here some picyys if you fancy doing it yourself

Spud in must be vac and gas tight or it won't work or it will go bang, whiz, boom.

Re-wiring the backfire control no petrol no need for it
And thats all folks. Starts and runs on Gas vapour, no need for petrol and have removed the petrol tank for safety no need to have another fuel in the back of the van. you could even run it off a red cylinder if you wanted to, dead handy if theres another fuel protest much easier to have a few of them safely stored away rather than gallons of petrol.

When I was considering doing this I called Hydramaster for advice, and they said while they WOULD do it if asked, they would recommend against it due to it being an air cooled engine, and the LPG making it run hotter - have you ever had any problems with this?
-
lpg does indeed make the heads run hotter, have i had a problem, no.
maybe some day but the fuel savings are just too tempting!
-
Convered mine to gas last week. Runs much hotter now and saves me 50% running costs ;D
-
Which TM did you convert Paul (Moss)?
-
vapour conversion paul or liquid?
-
How much are these coversions costing?
And how long before you break even when taking the conversion cost against difference in cost of petrol to gas against hours run
-
did that one on one of my pondering days off and parts were £150, The machine petrol to the tune £20- 25 per day that should go down by about £10 a day so break even is a bit over a three weeks.
-
Paul,
You'll save one hell of a lot more than that, at least half.
Nice job too, you do like a bit of a tinker, don't you? ;)

Its a Chemtex Panther 25 hp. The gas conversion is off the vapour.

Do you need an additional tank
-
as said you could run it off a ordinary red cylinder, 19kg ones are no deposit flogas
-
I'll drop mine over on Wednesday for you to do as I may still be poorly celebrating our win over Everton so won't be working that day ;D ;)
John at Hydramaster advises against converting their 2 cylinder t/ms as they've had problems with them

Paul do you get much waste off a tank or can you use the full amount
-
to be honest i run them off bio gas ( I know a man with a lot of poo gas) I have ran them off bottle and yes you get a few litre left over, helps if you have a refillable bottle as there no waste, or you could use the same tanks as us there are 100 litre tanks come with a cradle and last for the best part of a week, you can even use the same regulator as a bottle meaning you can switch back in a emergency. best bit is they are crash tested to no kill you if you have a smash

probably wise not to and see how I go then, anything specific about gas and the v twins ? mind you its a bloody thirsty machine the 421 going thru £25 a day on petrol, still a nice bit of kit.

Apparently they run very hot which damages the heads ,Dave Parry had to fit an oil feed system to stop the valve seats burning out but it did eventually damage one of the heads

The Law
UK
In the UK vehicles being used for work purposes have to show stickers indicating the vehicle is carrying compressed gas. If the vehicle is not being used for work, i.e. a camper van, you do NOT have to show the stickers.
However, it is considered good practice to have the stickers if you are carrying compressed gas. The fire brigade find great benefit in seeing the sticker if there should be a road accident, as it helps them contain the incident more quickly. But, only show the sticker when you are carrying gas, otherwise the fire brigade will be miss lead.
Note: If you are showing the gas sticker on your vehicle, expect to get stopped occasionally by the police when they check how you gas is stored.
In the UK:
a vehicle is permitted to carry a maximum of 2 x 10 liter bottles of compressed gas, unless the vehicle is ventilated with a rotating rooftop device, then the limit is higher.
Flammable gas MUST be carried upright at all times.
Warning diamonds must also be displayed, if for reward. Green for High Pressure, Red for Flammable.
BS EN 1949:2002 Installation of LPG Systems – Specification for the installation of LPG systems for habitation purposes in leisure accommodation vehicles and in other road vehicles

Would it be poss to convert a boxer 318 over to lpg? Mine is costing me about 30quid a day to run as well now. So tempting considering the fuel crisis

Heard a loud bang last night and imediatly though oh no! Steve was right, went outside and my neighbour told me it was just 5under1ands cup bubble bursting and it was followed by beep beep beep which on investigation was the cup winners open top bus reversing back into the garage.
so glad I don't like football, ;).

Unlike petrol one thing that doesn't sell out in a panic buying rush is LPG, very handy enough diesel to last for a while might even fill up the truck mounts old petrol tank with diesel
Also on selling out/cleaning related issues I did hear that Everton have also sold out like Newcastle, and renamed their ground, its now the Cillit Bang! Arena, something to do with removing filth from cups??? I don't get it myself? Anyone enlighten me?
-
Paul where do you get your parts or kit
Cheers Tony
-
Found this firm they will modify the kit as required ie with tank and filler or without if you are running of bottles.

-
used a vapour zero point regulator and a custom draw valve, liquid system are better for high supply but you need circulating hot water to get it to vaporises, it a trade off thing
-
Hi Paul where can I get them from.
Cheers Tony
