in 18 years ive broke tiles, put my foot through a flat roof, twice!(once through the plaster in the kitchen ceiling!).plant pots, outdoor light, skydish, bird table etc.
its cost me about £100 overall in 18 years so not too bad!!
whats the worst most expensive thing you ve broke?
by the way the woman whos roof i fell through still wont talk to me to this day(i did it around 16 years ago).the roof was shot.i was a little young and naive and said "sorry love but its not my problem.the roof should of been re done years previous to me standing on it.so the resentment still festers in her!she still just totally blanks me when im cleaning her neighbours windows! ;D ;D
oh i once put my hand through a very old glass window and nearly slashed my wrist open!the guy still paid me and said"its about time that window was changed its nearly 200 years old!!" ;D ;D

When I started on ladders I broke a few tiles but said nothing, some of those solar lights in the garden, the ones you stick in the ground as my pole hose pulled them over,a few ornaments as people could'nt be bothered to move them,a few plant pots,I've owned up to the majority that were obvious and people did'nt seemed too bothered.
Not a customer but I did break somebodys fingers once when I caught them in my van going through the glove box ;)

ive broken the end off a satelite dish, a couple of door bells, some guttering, and broke a window thermastat thing on friday. all in 6 months :'(

Nothing in two tears, then in 3 days a plant pot and an outside light.

Prior to this post.... ::)
1 x full set of stupid bl00dy solar lights like what you get from a garage on offer. Did it over a period of 6 months or so, different light every time. I just kept moving the tacky things round to hide the ones I'd snapped until I'd managed to do the whole set. And some xmas style lights they'd stuck outside and trailed over the path at the side of the house. Garden is/was lit up like Adelphi Mansions until I trailed my hose and size 9's over it heh heh heh... ;D
And when I worked with my last employer/slave driver I went through a rotten bench. Miserable geezer was to tight to fork out for a pointer ladder or steps - said I should bring my own - so when I stood on the million year old untreated cheap garden bench, I managed to almost completely disintegrate the thing, and all the "boss" could do is carp on "Oh great, thats cost ME hasnt it? £50 down the drain, a full days work for me". For the next 3 months. It was worth it just to hear the Ebeneezer plead poverty endlessly heh heh!! ;D
Of course now this is in writing I'll expect to go on a destruction derby.... DOH! :-\

When I was trad I broke someones outside light trying to manouva my ladder in a tight spot. Bloke wasn't pleased at all as light had been there for years!!

-
Employ some-one - they seem to break things all the time !!
WFP Levers, brush heads etc etc
-
when i was trad a gust of wind blew my ladders down onto a custys car causing £1200 worth of damage, i ended up buying the car and using it for work for 2 years and then sold it with the big dent still in the roof!
oh and at least 50 garden lights since ive been wfp :D

I broke a really big garden gnome once when I dropped the end of my ladder down on top of it while lowering the ladder down to the ground from the garage whilst climbing over to do the back windows.

tiles walking on roof when trad

Apart from my record houses per day i managed to break the corner of a red tile window ledge. I positioned the ladder in soft soil and resting against the corner of the house so i could reach the side of the top bay window. But after i climbed the ladder it began to sink further into the soil and the top rung snagged onto the corner of the ledge and snapped it off. I don't think to this day the customer has noticed as i took the broken piece home as a souveneir...

....this thread has jinxed me! reversed the van into an Italian stone ballustrade on a custmers front drive this week, was trying to keep to one side so they could get in their garage......whole pillar collapsed as the customer drove onto the drive......unbelievable......what brilliant people though...gonna sort it by bringing one from the back and repainting etc....i gave the job for free and they even want me to do some garden work.....really nice people, gutted to have caused them grief. By contrast today, cleaning insides......bucket on a belt just clipped a small table when i stood up, knocked table over with a flower pot on it....just broke the clay stand...worth about 50p....customer straight away "you could knock a fiver off for that"......unbelievable. Have broken cups awell.....no solar lights yet but its early days!
