Bought a combo a few weeks ago, nice little van but it smokes quiet a lot on start up but after been running ten minutes the smokes stops and its fine does anyone else have the problem, i think its burning oil but im no mechanic
-
check the dipstick and see how much its using. it would be rare for a diesel to burn oil unless its done a lot of miles .
-
Not that it helps...mine doesnt do that.
-
Its the 1.9 turbo diesel if it take a difference sumone said it could be the turbo seal or something?
-
My combo is fine it could be a number of things oil seal on the turbo, head gasket or engine better take it to the garage was it smoking when you bought it ???
Regards Paul

You sure its just not steam as opposed to smoke seeing as it stops after a bit?

Thick white/greyish blue smoke, stops after ten minutes of running.

smoking when starting up is not usually a symptom of oil burning through wear. That usually occours more when the engine gets up to temp. Any good mechanic is going to be able to tell you what it is likely to be pretty quickly.
The simple fact is that modern diesel engines that don't have the oil changed regularly ( and with good oil) are at serious risk these days. Its starting to make second hand cars and vans a lot more risky. In the old days, what you saw was what you got but not now.
