Title: Canvassing progress this week
Post by: Ian101 on March 17, 2012, 09:19:18 am
Started a canvasser Monday this week.

Hes not had a great 1st week with £108 of new work so far but in fairness to lad hes not down about it.

Paying him first clean and 10% of any extras conny roofs / gutters etc.

We had a bit of a problem at start of week when I found out he was putting prices on leaflet and was getting price just by looking at front of house  :o :o :o .... all sorted now and next week will be a great one !!

Once we have increased round to £xxxx then he has a full time job cleaning windows.

I am sorry ben but I am not taking on any new customers at the moment, I have a long list which will take me a few months to work through. Thank you for the interest though...

He is trying to build a business, the world wont come to an end if he does the odd one off to help pay the guys wages. I know its not ideal but its not life and death....

You really seem to have a big problem with customers cancelling, nearly every thread i read about canvassing, you pop up with statistics ect! Just a thought, maybe its not the customers??

Glad someone else has noticed, cancellations and one offs are just part of growing a business in my humble opinion. I understand they are a pain and not good but its not the end of the world...

I had one yesterday, I explained everything on the door and when cleaner had done she said she not sure about every month. I talked to him about it and if she turns into a time waster I will replace it. He is happy with that as he actually knows me and knows I am a man of my word. Its not always just about the money, I know alot of you guys have had trouble with canvassing companies but WE ARE NOT ALL THE SAME...

This is not a pitch for more work before anyone thinks that, I already have plenty and not taking on new customers at the moment...

well, if he's genuinly done something like 30 hrs of canvassing - then thats low,

however he has only just started - did you take him out and demonstrate a pitch and pricing ??

also if your not paying him a hourly rate - does it actually matter on how much he brings in ?

he may turn out better just delivering leaflets..

I find alt of people just want one offs .its always the customers because alot do also stick ,i dont know im thinking its within the m25 some people not all.. but some just dont care too much and having it done once is a treat for those.

i feel some dont care if its always clean they have no one to show it to , friends and familly dont visit , my mates havnt been bothed to visit me in 4 months it must be the same for those customers visiting around in london is such a mission ,

thats why im thinking to branch out, and prob move out where people have more time for each other where people notice things like "oh gosh look at garys windows"

Ian are you going out with this guy to show him the ropes or just telling him ?

Looking at the front of the house and second quessing is Lazy, people lie (yeah same as next door, forgetting to mention the glass wall at the back on the new extention)

look on the bright side if he did that every week for a year you would have an extra 5606 a month of extra work, I would class that as a result, I would just get a few more people doing the same if you want to build quicker. New cleans are a nightmare though with time so be careful what you wish for lol

what amount are you trying to get and in what time frame ?

yup 5 days from 10 till 5 so not much to show ... agree with wot u say as not on hourly rate .. just putting it down to being a hard area.

This week coming I will be with from 5 till 7 ... he had to finish at 5 this week due to getting last bus home as he has no transport ... not ideal but sometimes u gotta work with what you got  :)

weve stopped the prepricing now as may also be undercutting any cleaners in area - which is a big no no - any calls we get I go and quote or he does if he gets the call - he was pricing some at £8 which I went mental at as had told him my min is £12 or £10 for the odd tiny tiny house ... £8 aint worth stopping to get reels out unless loads of houses together then its an exception but we all singing off same hymn sheet by end of week and in fairness he got me some proper bonza priced stuff

new cleans are horrible had been a distant memory but done them all on Friday .. too true about the wishing bit   :)

what amount are you trying to get and in what time frame ?

be happy with another £3000 a month as for time not bothered ... within reason

We used tc in january when we started up he got us 48 houses in 5 days all nice work in chelmsford cleaned the work 3 times now no hastles had about 4 cancel. We tried another canvasser mentioned here who couldnt pick up the work....4 houses in 2 days and one of them cancelled before first clean. Tom is bloody good at finding work, i dont know how he does it especily in chelmsford
