I have called this supplier in connection with water supply restrictions. They said it does not apply to business use but one needs to write to a MR lee Dance and challenge the restrictions on your business as to how it will effect your likelihoods. This can be done on there web site or in writing to
Mr Lee Dance
Water resources,
South East Water
Rocfort Road
Snodland
Kent
ME6 5AH
and the rest of there address which is on there web site. Hope this will be of help some .
Ps they have also said they will make concessions for small business.

If it doesnt apply why would you need to write to someone?
-
Because I just called SE Water and because you purify your water from home and use your hose pipe as a supply.
-
Matt How come it does not apply
-
What I meant mate was the hose-pipe doesnt apply to us, there are no restrictions for us as it stands. But I have just phoned S.E. Water myself and got told the same as you mate. Im penning my letter later.
Good work Wizzzzz ;D

Same

It does not apply to businesses, therefore you dont need to do anything else.
Why would you start writing letters alerting water companies to the fact that window cleaners may use a lot of water?
If you keep asking them if this or that is ok, eventually they are gonna start making restrictions.
Just keep working and keep your mouth shut!

It does apply to businesses when theres a drought order, thats the next stage after April 5th. Be prepared.
The letter is to allow exemption from restrictions.

Not necessarily. Come April 5th we will be at stage 2 of the restrictions process. If things worsen the water authorities can implement stage 3 of that process. If they do that things get a little tighter, but still shouldn't affect us. HOWEVER the water authorities in certain circumstances can go straight from stage 2, where we are now, to stage 4. That will likely mean severe restrictions for all but essential commercial usage, which won't include us. We are a long way down the food chain, there's far more important uses for water than cleaning windows, they have to prioritise if it gets too serious.

Just got this off veolia water website regarding the hose pipe ban, it's at the bottom of page 11
https://central.veoliawater.co.uk/docs/drought-restrictions-explained(1).pdf
Water fed poles are frequently used by window cleaners and are within the definition of ‘anything designed, adapted or used to serve the same purpose as a hosepipe’. These systems use de-ionised water. Where mains water is the source used to create this de- ionised water, this activity is restricted.
What do you make of that?
Exceptions
A statutory exception exists in The Water Use (Temporary Bans) Order 2010 for the cleaning
of domestic walls or windows in respect of health or safety. Its not very reassuring mate, but maybe we'll have to use those h&s rules back at them, the same way they did on us when using ladders! Im with veolia too, so it looks like a grey area? Would it be a water ban v H&S issues? Or tops wfp and base trad? If it does get that bad, ill have to go to a commercial pure water supplier, until the ban is lifted.
