Ok im sure theres going to be plenty of people saying that they're both crap and a waste of money but the people who are on them or were what are your opinions??
They both offer the similar value for areas if you go for the heavyweight listings in yell but are people actually getting a return for there money??
looking for wc's in your area yell is one of the top in google but the nwc doesn't list, i am getting a new website and having a lot of seo work done just wanted to see if its worth a punt on one of the others??

or pay a seo company to get your own site up to page one of google ;D ;D

Dean I advertise on both, NWC is new so they need to to settle anyway the rankings they get will not be true figures to look at what ever people that slate it say, i know this to be true as do the same myself.
yell is a household name, I would ask them for the reach of the amount of people searching within your area, business tend to look on there a lot.
My advert pays for itself or I would not advertise on there, I have one of the top heavyweight spots there.
I am ranked 1 first page google with my website, but every little helps not everyone will click on the top spot anyway so it pays to have more channels there are 11 spaces that are good to fill, so having more is good ;)
hope that helps

thats a great help thank you, so hypothetically speaking would you say that nwc is something that may be worth looking at in the future when it reaches better rankings as it does seem a lot of money for a small postcoded area...
-
I've noticed the NWC Residential and Commercial have both been covered in my area by the same company.
I looked into the company further and found they are not even a "proper" window cleaning company.
They are a Grounds Maintenance Company. ???
Says it all really, as long as you pay your money .......... no questions asked. :P

the smaller areas are (as far as I know merged with others to be fair to the person that pays the money, and are first come first served basis, they are new so are eager to please so I would have a go on it before someone else does I can see it working for commercial work, they are doing similar to what I did on my site, limiting to one area and rank well for them.
Ian
p.s I am not on commission for saying this ;)

Hi
Sorry you feel this way but the company that has bought this area have just invested in two full van systems to offer window cleaning services to the current clients they have and are looking for new customers in the area they work
Makes perfect business sense to me!!

Hi All
I know I'm a bit biast, but NWC all the way for me, I have an area and have now had three enquiries and got one job from it and waiting to here on the others, was with Yell for 2 years and not a sniff, it may have just been me but was nearly 2K a year up front for decent advert and yell top link, also all my local compertition were listed beneath me for free!!!!
-
A surely yell all the way as it can be free... Since beginning of january had 6 new custies and as previously stated its free, just get our wording right...
All advertising is good advertising....
-
Yell can vary on where they list, but it also varies by area of there success for each business
i found the smaller paper adds worked but the bigger did not.
as for Yell.com it did not cover its cost so not worth it for me, though i think i am listed for free
as for NWC time will tell
-
Hi,
We are only four months into our project, so I think comparing us to Yell.com is a bit of a compliment!
We are hoping to hit the 1st page for the search term "window cleaners" on Google by the end of the month, we are currently Page 2. We were Page 7 a couple of months ago.
This should bring a lot more traffic to the site as a whole and benefit all our members.
Cheers,
Huw

Hi Huw,
Just out of interest how many just google 'window cleaners' on google each month?
-
Hi,

Cheers,
Huw

-

Cheers,

Huw is a good guy George (ps give me a call) , just these figures i think are not exact, unless there has been a surge of late, I used to rank google page one position 3 for window cleaning as the keyword and ranked 2 for window cleaner, it did not get much traffic as people type in phrases and this is something people fail to understand (thats not pointed at anyone but is true) althought it is a nice feeling being page one google for a generic name like said, I can understand why they want to do this, its like getting a medal and that medal feels good, I know I have them ;)
-
Was waiting for your call lol I am sure Huw is a good guy but felt the reply was a little off, I only asked a question and I can see why they would want to be up there but I would imagine most people would include their town or region in the search...
-
town/village and post code or the main town down the road from them.
-
[window cleaning]
Golbal Monthly searches 18,100
Local Monthly searches 8,100
window cleaners: 3,600 global local 1,900
these are based on computers only I thought I better say that just to clarify
There is a far better one to target but I am keep that to myself ;)
-
I was gonna say 110000 was well off. I checked the term last week and it was no where near.
-
yell pages has been very good over the last 3 years i think if domestic and commercial customers are searching for a window cleaner there will want 3 or 4 quotes unless they have been recomended that why i don't see a benefit for advertising on a national website and only beening the only window cleaner but there is no bad advertising only bad adverts

fair point, but i also found that people would choose me as i was on there doorstep and not in the city or whatever

Hi,
After reading my reply George I can see it may have come across as a bit sarcastic, it wasn't meant to be.
110,000 will be broad match and that was sourced from Googles largely unreliable keyword tool as im not in the office to use our usual software.
There's a whole host of keywords out there that are easily overlooked.
"Window cleaners xxxx" town is what we are targeting for our members, "window cleaners" as Ian said is a long term goal we have also set ourselves for both traffic and the medal!
Cheers,
Huw
