I was buying pure water at £1.50 per 25ltrs as I live in a flat 12 floors up. It was getting expensive so I buy a Merlin RO, DI, etc, etc.
I get it all plumbed in the kitchen in a cupboard over the sink and resign myself to carrying barrels up and down each evening.
I use it for one night and the next day a bloke from Southern Water calls to arrange a date to fit a meter as every flat in the block is going on one. I could have head butted the wall.
Two days later, I have a water meter.
I'm under no legal obligation to pay according to the reading on the water meter and can carry on paying the same as before it was fitted. The problem is that there's an exclusion to that law, if I use an RO system then they can force me to pay according to the meter. As they can read the meter from outside my flat, I'm basically stuffed because they will know from the amount of water I'm using etc etc etc.
So, I'm using the tap in the car park which is out the way and right next to my (paid for) parking space and I resign myself to getting bored witless for a few hours each evening filling up 200lts worth.
I use that for one evening and the next day........ a letter arrives saying the council will be replacing the large boiler that provides the hot water and heating for the block. The tap is on the side of the boiler room. On March 19th, the work starts so after that, I'll be paying for metered water.
:-[ :'(
I'm trying to find a garage to rent that has a water supply but I don't hold out much hope.

poor you sounds like most of us have it easy compared to you mate
-
WFP sounds very complicated, compared to trad.
-
im devastated. My water rate went up from 7quid a month to 9quid.
-
i have a unit that has free water supply it helps. if you go through say 3500 5000 litres a week im sure the bill would be high
-
wish i only paid £9 a month water. Try more like £800 a year :(
-
a cubic metre of water used on a meter is less than £3 so say you use 6000L a month its less than £18 a month.hardly bank busting.this is DI only though.less than a fiver a week.

Get a sub meter fitted. Deduct the reading from the main meter reading tel them this is for your business and it is no return to sewer. Southern water is £1.15 per 1 cubic meter = 1000lts If you don't do this and tell them what you are doing you will be charged at 95% return to sewer at around £4 per cubic meter. You will be required to fill out the necessary paper work once this is done the water company will be expecting your reading. I have had a compulsory meter fitted and have had my meter and water supply inspected by southern water all ok so far.

Mine is £523 this year; I've just been doing my filing; and I thought that was expensive. This is for water and sewerage.
-
Changing my van within the next 12 months. We've just gone on a meter at home, think I'll be getting a 4040 fitted in the van and fill up lunchtime at customers.
-
Mines £55 a month based in the same area as Sean so I suspect he isn't doing much wfp.

Youll have to pick them carefully. Customers can get arsey about this. I had a letter once telling me to stop using her water or she would have to start charging me. I wasn't, she misunderstood the system. She never mentioned it to me again, but cancelled 2 months later. She couldn't take hack seeing me each month after making such an arse of herself.

Matt, don't bother it is not as much money as you think being on a meter, if your using a merlin I would get a 4040 though as they are very poor for wasting water.

this was originally my idea, but with water pressure being so low wouldn't filter enough water to make it worthwhile. that and the water going down the drain....if custys saw that wouldn't look good.

I used to buy it from another window cleaner local to me in Brighton.
Maybe when you're out and about and you see some with a wfp cleaning windows, just stop and ask how much? At worst they can only say no.
-

cheers dont really now any wfp'ers round my area
-
Ill see what the bills rae like Ian once they start implementing the meter, but if its horrific then thats the plan.
-
Glad I aint on a meter as our bill for this coming year is £274.68 as I received this last thursday. So I count my lucky stars ;D ;D ;D

My water bill is £770 p a domestic use :o

Teesside water rates £38 per month

Just ask anyone you see working with wfp. I simply said I needed pure water for existing work and not new work.
....................................
My water bill for the year is £428. Amazing how it varies. You'd think it'd be roughly the same all over.

Its just my water rate
Not on a meter
Live in an old terraced cottage type thing in the country side and rates have stayed low dont think we pay for sewage for some reason as theres a huge cesspit somewhere where all our waste goes or something like that??
But it was 7quid last year and gone upto to 9 this year
My last place wasnt metered but i paid 70 a month in rates , and used same amount as water
Doesnt make sense, one day they will probably put it up same as everyone else

Simple to explain we have two companies that charge one charges for fresh water and the other for waste water and seeing as though the waste water company assume that 93% of all water we use through our taps returns as waste water charge you accordingly to the companys inlet bill. Every month £70-00 inlet £80-00 waste and this still doesn't cover there entire charge but close enough and not willing to increase payments. Have tried explaining that my wastage would not be as high as 93% of inlet but they don't want to know. A case of rip of britain me thinks.

well if i dont pay for waste this explains the low rate
Also the inlet rate will be low as its a small 2 bed property so they assume no doubt that the usage is low

yeah something tells me that everyone will have to have a water meter fitted soon. Wish i didnt have the meter
