actually Was thinking today bloody hell thats alot of leaflets droped in a very short time one day! hope it goes well lee
-
Agreed let us know how it goes.
-
your right it is! its happening tomorrow so I will update you all this time next week.
Last weeks drop of 10,000has so far brought in 20 customers this week, some spending £200 on the first clean.
I hope to get 60 next week from tomorrows drop plus a further 10 from this weeks drop. we also tend to pic up 3-5 a week on the job. so we may be breaking some of our records next week. I also plan to do 20,000 next sunday!
bring on the first cleans! im up for it. hard work never killed anyone. I just want the money!
-
10,000 for 20 custs thats crap aint it !!!!!!!!!!
-
Hi,
20 customers from 10,000 is 0.2%, so from 27,000 leaflets at the same success rate is 54 more new customers.
74 new monthly customers at say £15 an average clean = £1,110 of new custom a month, and I'm pretty sure Lee's average customer spend is more than that. Plus all the extra one-off cleans like gutters and fascias.
And as Lee says new customers will still be ringing from all the leaflet drops for at least a couple of weeks or more.
Cheers,
Huw

10,000 for 20 custs thats crap aint it !!!!!!!!!!
that % is very low which could mean the leaflet needs looking at to convert better, but as Lee said hes after the money so as long as it is not costing him then what ever he gets is extra monthly money which I would see as a result.
-

My very first drop last year was 5k in April 2011, two customers phoned last week from that drop !!!!!!!
I know because I have used an old phone nr. and only had my first 5K leaflets printed with that nr.

some of you just dont get it do you?
people call in for months. Actually 20 in week one is very good! I expect 40-50 from that drop alone over the next few months. 0.4% or above I would consider good at our prices. Im not interested in customer numbers or being a busy fool, im interested in the money the ones we get are worth. I could halve the prices we charge and double the number of people calling, go clean all day and earn f**k all.
Huws numbers are not to far wrong. Average customer over a year on just window cleaning is worth £176.00 So this week our anual turnover increased by £3,520 on just regular window cleaning never mind the additional services those people will have. If we get 60 next week which is a fair asumption then that will add £10,560 to turnover.
So we are on for an increase in march of £20,000 a year on domestic.
So does anyone still think we are getting a poor return?
-
Hi,
I will report back once our 20,000 flyers have been delivered this month.
Will probably do them solus at £70 a thousand, but have had an offer of £15 a thousand shared distribution with three others which sounds very cheap.
Total costs with shared distribution would be £520 including printing. If you could still hit 0.2% and get 40 customers would mean a cost per customer of only £13 which would be pretty cheap and a no brainer.
Cheers,
Huw

We should do a competition :)
My drops starting to go from tomorrow, and will for two months.
aiming for 500 new regulars maybe will beat Lea by the end of summer :)

I think this is excellent. you will be getting calls from this leafleting campaign this time next year...
In my experience people call months sometimes a year after they get the leaflet.
good for you!
any negativity you get will be from jealousy ::)

yes pryor just go buy a round !!!!!!!! easier & not wasting alot of time and them figures your comming up with are just assumptions it might not happen thats where I am and Im out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

Lee will correct me if I'm wrong but I think he means gutter and conservatory cleaning as well as windows.
-
;D you lot just dont get it ? lee is right.... in my mind all negative comments are from green eyed jealousy ::)
-
Lee, I for one am really interested in how its going for you.
Please keep the updates coming.
-
Its shocking that some of you run a business.
from some of those posts Im starting to think you wouldnt understand how to run a bath!
we will see who gets the poop return 9 months from now.
people call for weeks and weeks after a leaflet drop. 20 in week 1 is good.
Our new customers quite often spend upwards of £200 with a first clean. derrrrr with extras!
Of course with doing things like im doing and being public about it I realise the morron brigade will be out in force. I am really only sharing this so LIKE MINDED people can see something done a little differently in terms of scale and execution.
And I must say that those like minded people are out there and I have enjoyed being contacted dirrectly at my office this week by people all over the country and exchanging ideas over the phone.
now im off to bed in a mo since im up at 6am tomorrow to meet 35 people with my mountain of boxes that will only get me a poop return, at least I can get a mac donalds breakfast!
-
Honestly Lee your posts have been a real inspiration to me, keep us updated. Forget the critics.
-
Lee I'm with you on this. We only leaflet NEVER canvass. in 5 years we now employ six people. I'm off of the glass, always dealing with quotes and paper work. We leaflet each area every 3 years, works well for us
-
well done Lee, i only ever done leaflets as the people that call generally really do want a cleaner and not been put on the spot by canvassing, you also do get calls at varying times so a contant dribble of new work comes in. Thinking big should not be put down by others just because its not for them. good luck with it if it works well in these times who knows what can be achieved in the good times. paul

I think that is a good return, what do people expect? speculate to accumulate....nice on lee.

I built my whole round on leaflets. Each to their own, but in my eyes, it is the best way. when someone calls you, they are not messers, and you are in control of the pricing.
People who dont see the whole picture, think that if they are spending a lot of money on advertising, want to see an immediate return. With leaflets, its like a residual income, customers drip in for a long time after they have received the leaflets!!!
I made the mistake of not keeping on top of it the last couple of years, and really noticed it.
Im staring this years campaign in the next couple of weeks once ive found a new decent printer of leaflets (so any recommendations greatly received).
Im also looking to change the design, so if anyone would kindly give me a peek of their leaflets, i would be thankful if you could mail them me to info@mj=cleaning.com
Good luck Lee, im watching this thread like a hawk mate ;)
-
i dont understand why other window cleaners slate you lee!!at the end of the day we all run our cleaning businesses differently.
i personally do the odd bit of leafleting and canvassing but its not very often.most work comes through word of mouth and recommendation.and your right.most customers who ring up are quality customers.
best wishes to you all

i get what you re doing lee, and i think its the right way of doing things too.
the people who dont get it, just aren't business people. they may well run a successful one van operation, but that's something very different.
keep the updates coming please. i find it all very useful and exciting!
good luck today

Hi Lee,it was great to speak with you at length the other day
Please keep us updated on your progress, it's a truly fantastic approach to this business and the dividends are rolling in already
For what is worth, given the demographic of customers that your campaign will appeal to, I think you should far exceed your estimates over a 12 month return
Good luck for the long day today

hi
i think thats about right huw, but also you could get some other one offs that will cover the 520 outright so the regular customers will be free

now theres a man who knows a good breakfast ;D
-
So its 4pm now and 2 new from today drop so far.
Im a bit dissapointed with the weather but what can you do. I got the saussage and egg breakfast which was nice.
here is a good reason to not leaflet..... loading the car with the boxes my back suddenly went twang and ive been in agony all day! gutted. I hope it sorts itself out quickly as I will need to be out on the tools with lots of first cleans coming in.
Today I have been round to see a woman who door knocks for me and she is starting again next week.
canvassing has its place I just dont want to pay £30 or more for a customer. I pay her £10 a customer (only after I have called them up to confirm everything) plus an extra £5 for every additional service they have with the first clean.
-
I've had 5 enquires through my site since Friday. Pity we don't clean houses anymore so ive passed them on. The more your out there the more work finds you.

huw I would opt for solo's rather than a pile through a door better hit rate.
Lee, your always trying something new, thats great stuff. if it add business and is profitable thats good business from where i'm sat.
I have leafleted for years I find them the most loyal of customers, so looking forward to your results from it. seem a cheap way to get more work/ your name out there which I think people are missing
-
thats good lee what happens if her customer cancels after 1st clean and say it was just a front or a £15 house do you just swallow it or get a credit?
-
If they cancel then they cancel, there is no come back to her. Again I would say we just dont get these kinds of problems.
-
Re your back Lee. You know what they say, no pain-no gain ;)
-
well i certainly have the pain! and man flu on top, so not the best day. :'(
-
All joking aside, you deserve all the success because of the effort your putting in. Do you have an exit plan?
-
no I dont. I wouldnt sell, not for a long time anyway. I would like my business to be bigger but the future for me is in the franchising long term.
-
do you charge extra for first cleans lee?
also, ibuprofen is the best over the counter painkiler for back pain. its fantastic stuff. it builds up in your system over time so the effect improves over a day
-
I dont charge more for first. never have but of course I see why people do.
I am taking that and it is helping. I have never hurt my back like this and im actualy shocked at how bad it is. I laid on my lounge floor for and hour because I could even sit in a chair!
-
sounds bad. i've had it that bad a couple of times. once had to make my lunch on the kitchen floor as i couldnt standup!!!! was only 28!
keep taking the ibuprofen... it works better over days. you can get stronger stuff off the GP too. they reduce the inflammation in the muscles which cause the spasm. my wife's a physio and she swears by it.
-
All sounds good Lee, will keep reading as your results roll in. Good Luck.
-
Yep,seems to me Lee has some good business sense, and can handle whatever flack comes his way.
-
If they cancel then they cancel, there is no come back to her. Again I would say we just dont get these kinds of problems.
Im suprised you dont have any of these problems.
People are always after something for nothing in our case a one off for the cost of a regular clean maybe this one off craze effects london-surrey areas the most and areas more out of london aint so mad about one offs?
i always charge doulble or 1.5 minium for the first clean it is the only way of finding out who is serious still people cancel
-
i very rarely have problems with new customers either.if they phone me or come up to me on the street they usually turn into good solid customers.
i seem to be attracting good customers all the time these days.i think most new customers have been passed my phone number off an existing customer.best type of work in my experience!
-
Hows it going Lee?
-
emailed u lee ;D
-
How many did you get in the end?
-
at times I use both leaflets and directories to gain new work when I need a sudden rush of it.
last year I was putting out 5000 leaflets on a weekly basis, what I found was after 3 weeks I was getting on average 9 new customers a week.
also last week I had a phone call from a women who found me from my advert in the quick find directory, which is nice concidering I placed it 4 years ago.
-
It hasnt finished yet. Ive got another 20,000 going out today in my home town
3 of us are also going out door knocking for a few hours later

lee good luck with it mate ignore the critics i think you cant beat a leafletted customer, ive always had pretty good results from canvassing and im considering doing something of your size in next couple of months maybe 50-70000 when got bit more money i will only ever canvass around the houses we do now as canvassed customers turn out to be wasters, i think the amount of extra services you recieve for gutter and connys etc not just the windows makes it a much better way of making money, we earn far greater money cleaning fascias and gutters than we do windows and you always get paid at end of these type of jobs never left waiting for payment
-
ok so I ended up door knocking on my own today for one reason or another and here is what I got
3x £14 every 6weeks
1x £18 every 6weeks
1x £22 every 6weeks
1 off facia clean for £65
1 off patio jet wash £200
not bad for 2 hours walking in the sun! all right on top of existing customers. first time I have door knocked for 2 years! ive still got it lol ;)
we also got 2 through out website today so thats 7 regulars today.
