Title: Why I Love Canvassing
Post by: Roy Cauldery on February 29, 2012, 06:35:31 pm
As the title says

What other industry can you walk out your front door, go for a bit of a walk and pick up work for your own business?

Sun was out in Kent today, so did the sensible thing and went to the seaside.
Picked up the following
1 x Patio clean £120.00
2 x £30 / 8 weekly
1 x £15/4 weekly
1 x £14/4 weekly
1 x £20/8weekly

Plus quotes in at 4 other properties for additional £90/8 weekly

Plus got apprehended  in the bank when doing the bank run by a girl who recognised me from when I canvassed her house ages ago,so I'me going to see it tomorrow night  ;D
Plus 3 x enquiries by email today

A Bl**dy good day by my reckoning

Happy canvassing everyone 8) 8)

Target of 80 new customers by end of march - only 6 more to go!! 8)

Lol that has happened a few times but I always come out with a half decent score. Average just over 100 on my own but lowest is 40 and that was the worst ever, needed a beer when I got home after that day lol...

But to be fair the good days far outweigh the bad days so you just have to take it on the chin and start again the next day....

What are you now my business manager mick? He showed me how to trad the other day and in return I took him out knocking for half an hour to show him the ropes, did 20 houses between us at 3 in the afternoon and I got one and he got his fronts only job. You couldnt wipe the smile off his face lol...

regarding sealant- its a marmite thing for me and customers alike
I sell it and its a good product, but, and this is a big but, you have to apply it properly
I know others who would rather not seal because of the call backs you can get from it, but that is also part of customer expectation and how you educate them
Nature is very, very aggresive and will re-colonise anything outdoors in the blink of an eye, and customers really do think your putting down a magic barrier which will last for ever
They, as part of the process ,really must keep up the maintenance when your gone for years down the line
Having said that, its a massive earner if done correctley and its how I got started out - I just run out of things to do in winter so I thought I would give window cleaning a go- starting up in winter too :o
Best move  I ever made

email me if you got any other questions mick :)

I once sold a drive clean and seal a few years ago, when the man of the house came home once the sealer was dry he took his car key and shoved it down the joint!!

I then had him complaining that the sealer wasnt strong enough lol my point is that he expected this amazing invisible barrier that was going to protect his drive forever and a day....

It is a real marmite product...

Thanks Roy!!

i cleaned a few drives last year, and the few that did ask about sealing didn't realise the price of it, when i came back with a quote they seemed to be quite shocked!I have heard about how difficult it can be to seal a drive, I've spoke to some of the main suppliers, they just say make sure its clean and dry!!easy for them to say, they are not going to get the calls back from unhappy customers! having said that this is a service i want to offer

thanks for the offer of advise! will email when i get stuck!! lol

The 40 is monthly value not number of customers....

You can hit some tough spots and its hard work but I find its best to just move on to another area and start again....

Just to follow on from yesterday and to encourage all you shy wall flower types who can't face door knocking-just get out there and do it!
My day knocking yesterday resulted in 5 new cleans, the follow on is the further 5 it generated today after people spoke to husbands etc..
It's a big boost to the bottom line, so don't be afraid,it's your business after all

Good luck ;D

i have some canvassing to do tommorow yawn really is the best part of the business imo i have never stopped canvassing even when you dont need the work you can increase profatability and time by streemlining ie. dropping the crud and replacing with sweet sweet monthy class glass
