The marks above the windscreen will polish out, the marks on the bonnet im not so sure about.

Like I said it could have been ALOT worse, also should have van sign written in the next month or 2 so will cover up what ever doesnt polish out.

I once had six ladders, 4 were big, 2x19 2x21 as well as 2 pointers, I was driving through old market in Brizzle. I came round a sharp right hander, which is right outside a fairly big police station.

As I went round the bend the roof rack gave up and the whole lot slid off and clattered off across the road, complete with roof rack.

I got seriously lucky as they didn't hit anything and no coppers came round the corner. I had to get them all off the road in front of a whole load of miserable looking rush hour commuters.

I have never had a repeat performance.......DOH!!!!!!

My brother forgot to clamp the ladder on my van once and it flew off the top of the van whilst I was doing about 65mph on the M5. God knows how it didn't result in a pile up but thankfully it didn't. As the ladder flew off it was clipped by a lorry following us which catapulted the ladder into a field...very lucky indeed

Very lucky doesnt even cover it!  Could have been taken to court and fined quite heavily for that one, classes as unsafe load.  Extremely lucky!  Right place and all.

Ive NEVER had this happen to me.  Mind you being wfp my collapsible ladders are in the back now  ;D ;D  I always made a point of putting the ladders clamps on my drivers chair, without fail.  This way if i put the ladders on and forgot to tie on straight away, when i went to get in and felt a hook prodding  me up my ar*e it was a timely reminder!!

I have put flasks, lunch boxes, squeege and applicator (never found these), and a phone (wedged onto spoiler 1 mile down the road when i remembered!!

Yes I've done it I think everone has. And I too have driven quite a long way then got to where I had been going only to find the ladders weren't clamped and I had got away with it.

The worst part is when you are breaking ( always happens when going down hill ) and you stop, and the ladders continue overhead hitting the bonnet, and then resting in the middle of the road  ::)

funny when you do that yo have to brake so gingerly taking ages to stop so they dont end up on the bonnet  ;D

if you can't T-cut it yourself, you could get someone like Chips Away to sort of the scratches on the bonnet

yep done that with ladders similar marks on my escort bonnet.

Realised broke gently  :'(

Secret is to speed up then slam on so ladders clear bonnet; could make it an event for the olympics.

Yes I've done it a few times too with deep scratches on bonnet etc. The funiest though was when I drove home 3 miles without tying it on. Still can't understand why it didn't fall off!! ;D

 :'(  :'(  :'(  :D

Did that too, went through a whole residential area, little roundabout, big busy roundabout, and thought, that's odd, I can hear something funny. Looked in my mirror, and 2x ~10m of hose behind me. The orange hoselock type connectors were fine too!

With the van being white its an easy repair. Go to a motor paint supplier and they will make you tin of the same colour up.
Cut the paint around the scratches, wipe with thinners, spray with paint light coats only. Let it dry a couple of days and cut and polish.  £15.00 fix!

Been there, done that, nearly did it yesterday morning as well.
And many years ago, used to carry small chute 2x11 on rack on top of car, tied down of course, but on top of this used to have 2 cotneys (A ladders, pointers as some call them) held on with the round bucket between the rungs, got to 70 mph on the bypass and the bloody things took off bucket and all. Lucky it was quiet at the time.
