Title: Drimaster 2 problem
Post by: davep on February 27, 2012, 07:25:40 pm
Been using my drimaster tool fine with the scorpion but when I tried it with the prowler it was making a horrible screaming sound. I think the metal lips have dis lodged?

Any tips before I start taking it apart?

Thanks

Sounds like the top lip has come off and probably fallin inside if you shake it you will hear it rattling around f so tip it forward and you should be able to get it out

Dave,
Just take the bolts out and take it to bits to put the lip back on, plus gives you a chance to clean all the fluff out of it while your'e at it.
Or, throw it in the bin and get a Sapphire Scientific, much easier to maintain. Sorry, Jim, couldn't resist ;D

Dave its the extra suck that makes the noise also if you look through the perspex you will see all the airflow holes blocked with fluff. Take it apart and clean out all the holes with a needle and it will be back to normal.

Or chuck it in the bin and buy a scientific ;D

:)

You don't get me that easily :)

Dave make sure you've got a small pair of nail scissors on the van.  You'll need them because the next thing that will happen is you'll start snagging fabrics and making pulls in them.

What's happening is your prowler is pulling a lot more Hg than your scorpion.  When you get any decent amount of lock-down, the vacuum is collapsing the vac slots of the tool.  This is making the metal lips "smile" which dislodges them and makes the sharp corners stick out, causing the pulls in the fabric.  It also causes the whistling due to the air being pulled through a more restricted space.

Mossy is right though there will be fluff stuck in there which also causes the whistles.  When my DM2 got to the state yours sounds like it's in, I chucked it in the shed with all the other expensive junk that didn't last the distance.

I agree with the previous posters about most everything they said.

The higher the vac; the more she'll scream.

The lips do dislodge.

The metal does catch fabric.

It's a pain in the rear end to remove all those small nuts, blots and washers & then put them back together again.

HOWEVER, I FIXED MINE REAL EASY.  ;D

No more problems after this one simple fix.   ;)

I sold it to someone that wanted one, even after I told him about all the problems.  :o

I then bought a Sapphire Scientific and a few months later, bought a HydroKinetic.

I must admit, I do prefer the HK over the SS AFTER getting used to it.

That took me about two cushions.  ;D

Everyone will have a different opinion, in my view, upholstery tools are personal.  :-[

I also carry in my van as well as the above two, a Rotovac Dome tool, mainly for mattresses, office partitions and large cushions.

When working at home, I keep the original DryMaster for rug fringe flushing.

Shorty.

PS::: I also LOVE cleaning  :-* upholstery.  :o ;D
