30 for me, and nearly 50 years old, even including large 4/5 bedrooom  houses, doing 4 per hour times by 8 hours = 32 houses, if up that to 5 its 40 houses, and dad used to do 100 terraced a day, all wash leather and scrim, reckon with wfp and trolley could do 150 a day

Realistically 5.5-6 hours a day on the glass for me is consistantally acheivable. Do not think what everyone else can do just do the best u can do.

100 a day?

Is that all.

My grandad would do that number before breakfast with just his bike, a few leathers and an old bucket with a hole in.

You should have seen what he could do after breakfast.

I have a round where you can quite easily do 50 houses in a 8 hour day but they are small and only about £6 each

But generally dont kill myself trying to do personal bests every day

I just have a figure in mind  and try hit it as quickly as possible and gear my self and equipment and prices up for hitting it easily as many times a week as i want

Houses come in all shapes / sizes / prices etc so how many a day is a very hard question

I reckon as a rough guess like everyone else has said that on 3 bed semi -4 bed detached type stuff somewhere around 20 give or take a few will be about right

Extremely compact stuff no doubt more , and more spread out stuff less , and prices would usually reflect that to keep days earnings similar

How can you have a target amount?
Every day or area is different ;D

In some places I do upwards of 15.
Whereas other days I'll do two or three...

I always wonder that. The amount I do varies so much. Tomorrow I'm doing just one house then on Weds, I've 13 planned.

I cannot believe that anyone can average 6 or more houses an hour at 12 minutes or less, and actually clean the windows, unless all the houses are right next door to each other and the customers couldn't careless whether the windows look clean or not.

The 'I do 50+ houses a day brigade', is that 50+ houses everyday?

Target amount of houses or ££

Its very easy to have a target ££

Not so with houses unless you clean just one type

ROSSKESEVA

I dont know if you are referring to my 50 houses comment but i said i "could"
on one round , which is only one day a month , doesnt mean i DO though

i highly doubt the claims that someone is doing 50 semis day in day out properly alone though

100 terraced is pretty dodgy too , unless it s just the 2 front windows
I find terraced are a right royal pita once you get round the backs

Sean - nope. That wasn't aimed at you at all.

It was aimed at the BS brigade. There does seem to quite a large number on here. Anyone who has been window cleaning for a quite a while and has been, or still is, trad as well as wfp knows what's what and how it all works.

With some who post, just the basic logistics means it's BS.

The best I've ever done in one day was 19 houses. 11 of those were contract detached houses on a private estate with straight forwards access all round. The others were spread out on the same estate. When I got home I was knackered and fit for nothing other thans a few cans and putting my feet up.

No BS, if you know Middlesbrough, thousands and thousands of small terraced houses, 2 windows 1.2m x 1m wide, and small fanlight above the door. I was being conservative with a hundred a day, but thats how some make a living and others a fortune and end up millionares, some  can talk the talk & walk the walk

Exactly.

My first house took two hours today.
Would be impressed if they did 50 of them. Unless they do 100 hour days... ;D

Must be doing piddly little houses. I'm gradually concentrating on the bigger stuff now.

This type of house is what about 75% of my round consists of , i get about 18 of these done a day , the rest is commercial and those odd ones you hate but just dont have the heart to cull !

Out of interest , what would you lot charge for this house , conny is all the way round at that height .

I would have said £20 and I'll do the garage door at the same time and if the car's parked there, I'd give the windows of that a once over as well plus I'd go over the sofit around the front door and garage each time.

Extra few minutes doing a few extra's = extra money.

If they said no, then I'd say also £15 for just the windows.

Idealrob, What hours do you work in a day? By your calculations it takes you 15 mins to do each house. 32 houses takes 8hrs let's say it takes 3 mins per house to collect, and move onto next house that's another 96 mins, taking you to 9 hrs 36 mins without a break or travelling time to work.
Title: Re: how many houses in 1 day
Post by: dazmond on February 28, 2012, 07:27:57 am
rich i could clean 3 an hour for up to 6 hours.so 18 in a day.working 9am-4pm(an hour for brews, chatting to customers, lunch and general faffing about).

i personally think ideal rob does NOT clean his customers windows to a good standard if he says he can clean lots more houses a day unless he s working 10 hour days.

ive been cleaning windows for many years and its not good to try and hammer your work every day as youll be knackered and burn yourself out.make mistakes, more chance of accidents and you will lose customers if your too quick.

a steady brisk pace with 5 min break here and there and half hour for lunch works best for me.

its a fine balance between cleaning briskly with a good standard of work achieved and taking the pee.IMO ideal rob IS taking the pee and being too greedy if he cleans many more of these types of houses a day.

hi dazmond,

nice for you to mention me in this topic when i've not commented????

of course the thing is, is you have never seen our work so you're just speculating.

all i can say is that we clean our clients homes to the standard that THEY are happy with.  our clients pay us every 4 weeks for our cleans and are so happy with the quality that they use standing orders to pay us.

the prices we charge are amongst the highest in our area, and there are plenty of WCs in our area.

also we have an office that is staffed 8-4 mon-fri so it is very easy for clients of ours to get in touch with us and complain if they wanted.

We clean to a good standard, and i still think 15 mins is steady pace, we have been cleaning some of the houses for 27 years, and get no complaints, maybe an odd window , eg bird hit it etc, yes we have a mid morning and afternoon cuppa, and 40 min lunch, yes ans start at 8 and finish at 5 pm, and most have money or cheque ready, so no time wasted or payonline, but even at a tenner and doing 20 a day , its a grand a week

A terrace house for the front would take 5 mins maximum with a good flow on wfp. Say 10 a hour with 10 minutes for a break or moving the house ect. 3 hours 150 houses would be easy in my eyes without flogging your guts out. I still think for an average size 3 bedrooms semi take 10-15 minutes there is 4 a hour and hour break is still 24 houses say travel time 20 for day is easy to do working 9-4

Why you on the tools with such a great vat registered round?

Ps.. i never said its impossible to do 20 a day etc , just stating it isnt the exerience of the average windy to knock out 20 a day every day taking 1k a week ... if your vat registered you need to be doing much much more than that

We have 3 couple of vans, just stating the 20 -32 is one person, as for the VAT registered, we still clean thousannds, and yes mean thousands of window on the large chemical sites on Teesside, former ICI world head quaters, with internal & external, over 10,000 windows, as well as other jobs on the site, as for the 11,000 window job been cleaning it as well for over 37 years, aswell as office cleaning on the site, with one large job, with 3 full time cleaners 5 days a week, been doing this for 31 years, see no bS, i talk the talk, and can walk the walk,no BS

You mean your dad did and you inherited it

You have had those jobs since 31-37 years ago , and you said yourself you are below 50 so you didnt win them at 12 did you?

Well done though , but having big contracts doesnt mean you can do 32 houses in a day on your own
Whenever anyone questions your claims you fall back on how your dad was a window cleaning millionaire and you have big jobs on chemical sites

For all anyone knows you are still doing them for the same price as 30 odd years ago

No wonder you have to go out and clean 100 terraceds a day

This will be my last post before 6 pm, got to get on with today, as for inheriting, its half  true, as dad would have been 87 this month, I have looked after for 21 years now, and no the prices are not the same as 37 years ago, some jobs even go back over 50 years, and was £18 then, and nearly a grand now, but enough said, we don't clean more than a dozen terraced houses now, but that's where the money was, then teesside chemical sites, still think today more money can be made on small 3,bed semis  and know how to do them, whatever I say Sean, you only half believe, I will stick to my way, earning my money, driving an e class merc, that cost 41 grand new, its now 4 years old now, but I honestly belive, and I mean honestly, when go after contract work, and pull up in that, most know I am a succesful business man, and it pays its way, its the first time I have, mentioned the merc on here, as did not want to sound cocky, I know you will have an answer for this Sean, and no it did not come from dad, before you ask, now let me start working, thanks, as for the record i have never hid behind what my mam and dad did ; or the making a,million from window cleaning, and I don't know how many have done this, but was never born with a silver spoon, and work 6 days a week, and on the toosl, not all day in an office, and are very proud of dad, and that's why I have told his story on here a few times, and just goes to prove, hard working people like them from the worst areas of boro to be brought up in, can make it, and 90%,goes to my mam who is still going strong at 86 next month, and still does the accounts for us every week, she was the driving force, cause behind every good man, there's a woman, and dad would be the first to admit it was Mams determination, and will talk about her now.LOL

On a point, as of wednesday, i replied to a post on my smart phone, and its suprising how much time you can loose, answering text or emails, or post on this forum.Window cleaning round for sale, all cleaned by WFP.
the details below

New estate in Sedgefield, takes 2 men 2 days to complete.
Average price of houses is £8.50.
Takes £765 every 4 weeks
There is a round for sale on the forum, not far from us, the details below

i know people might say it can be done in xxxx many days to sell the round, but this works out at over 22 houses per man per day
