My first ever you tube video! it was filmed today at the office with the new equipment and leaflets turning up.

sorry but I dont know how to make the video fill the box you are watching it in. Advice would be good on that. I filmed it on my i phone so maybe thats why?

inspirational stuff lee.

really interesting to see a proper WC marketing campaign too.

a little question is, i noticed you seem to have a map on your wall of your local area, guessing this is your working area?  where did you manage to get this?  i'm trying to get the same for my own area, for the office, but can only get A-Z books, which are all single pages and split up, or maps that cover much greater areas, which are little use for my needs also.

richard

I had the map custom made a few years ago from a company called geoplan, it wasnt cheap but its been great over the years as a quick reference. word of advice, I had the post code lines in yellow which is crap as you cant see them. go for blue or red maybe.

we actually cover a bigger area now, but the map is still a great addition to the office

Hi lee
In your video you mention that last September you delivered 12000 leaflets and managed to get 38 regular customers.
I might be mistaken but I worked out that the ratio of your success in your leaflet was only 0.32 % which is less than half % .
Was it the same leaflets?
Was it the same company who delivered it for you?
If so, there might be something wrong with either the leaflet or the company who delivered them.

I might be wrong with my calculation, but leaflet should give you at least 1-2% result.

have you tested the response rate if you leave the price on, against taking it off?  or do you put the price on because it makes it easier for you marketing process as a whole?

I know others will see this as a pitch but its not, I couldnt take on any more customers at the moment.
38 customers from 1200 leaflets? Is it just me or would you not be happy with this? Thats 300 odd leaflets per customer and you will need to do about 220,000 leaflets to hit 700 customers.... Thats frightening

I also think its hilarious how Lee protects his so called secret formula pricing structure on the video yet its on the website for anyone to see...

Hi Lee

Great video your unit looks nice as well, much more tidy than mine.
On you score board you should also add a colum for jobs lost, that way you can keep an acurate score of how many jobs in total you pull in.

Title: Re: video of today
Post by: Lee Pryor on February 23, 2012, 11:55:51 pm
lots of good coments there.

.5 a % is a good return by anyones measure. dont forget that drop was done at the end of the summer, that does have an effect.

I should also point out that we had loads of one off services and the board is for only regular round customers. the money we got in from jet washing gutters con roofs and so on more than covered the cost of the print and delivery. so in a way you could say we got those 38 for free.

I maintain you end up with a more solid customer base through this method than canvassing, however it does have its place so dont get me wrong.

GD 200,00 doesnt frighten me as I think you can all see.

My dog bless him does not get in his bed as the leaflets have taken its place lol  ;D

I have done similar leaflets in the past without prices but it gets hard to find the time to get round all the quotes. when someone calls me from a leaflet they are already a customer and it all gets done over the phone. rapid growth requires systems in place as i learnt the hard way a few years ago.

this batch of leaflets cost £4,000

there i think that answers most of the posts.

thank you all for your posts

Lee

Lee I'm sorry for all the questions mate. I just think you've got a really good idea, I want to get a round together myself for weekends. As you say yourself you find more dedicated customers if you leaflet over canvassing.

The thing is I don't like canvassing and would rather go leafleting, don't get me wrong if I'm in a road working I don't mind knocking a few doors but find it really hard to get out canvassing if I'm in the house.

I am hoping to get a canvasser in to help me but the one I'm hoping to use seems to be really busy so I need to do something constructive in the meantime as I'm driving myself mad.

Hi Lee

I enjoyed your video. Thank you.

Two questions about your system if you don't mind please.

On your R/O unit you mentioned the second filter down was a water softener. How does that work?

You also mentioned a Robak (spelling) recycle system that captures about 50% of your waste. I've never heard of that before. Please can you tell us how that works.

Interesting to see how the effectiveness of leaflet drops has deminished over the years. About 15 years ago we estimated that we got a 4-5% return on mailing shots in the motor trade, and many an hour was spent putting leaflets into envelopes and attaching address stickers. I guess this reduced effectiveness is why we don't see many mailing shots from new car dealers any longer.

Thanks

Spruce

Why do you use a fixed price structure? Is it simply to make life easier dealing with customers on a larger scale? There must be times on bigger 5 bedroom propertys where you could have charged more if the price wasn't fixed.

Except that at 315 leaflets per customer, my leafletting (at 7.8p per customer delivered solus including leaflet printing cost; probably similar to Lee) would mean that a new customer cost £24.63 - I'd call that a bargain.  And, as Lee said, that's a September leaflet.

My average clean price is just over £21, so it looks to me to be a very cheap way of getting customers.

Did you cut and paste lees pricelist and business? As a canvasser I can see the benefits of leaflets but you guys taking a different approach to 4 weekly cleaners so its difficult to compare. Each to their own...

My business is very similar to Lee's in terms of pricing and the way we both gain customers from leaflets with pricing included.

But that's why I put my leaflet cost details on and my average prices rather than his.  I hear time and again that leaflets are a poor way to gain customers, yet a quick look at the maths says different (for me).

If you employed a canvasser of your own and paid them one clean it would work out cheaper, if you found the right one to work around your existing work then you could increase density and profitability at the same time....

That to me is a win win....

I agree - one of my leafletters has started doing just that - he's earning a lot more than leafletting and I'm happy, too.  Still leafletting as well, as that's scaleable at short notice where a canvasser isn't.  I can have 60,000 leaflets out this Friday if I wish (assuming I'd want 200 more customers in a rush, of course).
