A shampoo brush would be alright, if using a pad do not go any coarser than a brown one..
IMHO
;D ;D

a shampoo brush would be too soft, I prefer a poly scrub brush ( broken in on a concrete driveway if new)
I used a rotary to agitate for years before i bought a CRB machine

Same as Mike, except I haven't bought a CRB machine yet :D
I think it depends on the carpet as well. A bonnet might actually give better agitation if it was a thick wool pile, so I'd have both on hand and test :)

ITs an 80 20 mix with a decent pile
will my scrub brush be too harsh,i think it might

If it isn't trashed I would skip the brush in that case, but a bonnet may well be the answer?
