Steve

If you Google "email newsletters" it'll bring up a the likes of Constant Contact and MailChimp.  Very easy to use and 100s of templates available.  We use MailChimp.  If you keep your 'list' under a certain number (think it may be around 1000 emails per month) then it's free!

I use Constant Contact and Invoice 2 go.
Email the customer an invoice at end of the job, jump in the van and copy and paste info into Constant Contact phone app. Job done.
I`v been really bad at collecting customers emails addresses in the past, this way is so easy I`v no excuse not to do it.
PS. I always ask if it`s okay to put them on the database, no ones said no.
PPS You can import your existing database very easily.

I'm with John on this.

We do it from our own system with direct to one client emails, but for the general newsletter type 'bulk' emails we use mailchimp.  Under 2000 is FREE, over that its not expensive if you have a bigger list.  You can even set these up so they are generated automatically from your website blog content, so as you add blog posts it will send an email newsletter monthly with content pulled from that blog.

There are loads of ready made templates and the tutorials are great, really easy to work through, you'll be sending amazing looking stuff after an evenings studying how.
