Title: Alternative to Merlin
Post by: DaveG on February 20, 2012, 07:28:24 pm
After using the Merlin for the last 6 months, weve got through 6 bags of resin and its time to get rid! Our tds from tap is around 220 and the Merlin gets it down to 44 , which is pumped at 75 psi..(even after changing membranes..another 150 quid).

How you guys get tds down to 7 is beyond me!

Any suggestions on a better ro unit guys?

Yep, the vyair ones are very good. I've got the 400gpd pumped one, MUCH better than my old merlin & produces water almost as fast:

A bag of resin every month, you must use an awful lot of water. I have a merlin which gets my tds down to about 35 most times and I guess I use one bag a year

40-40 RO is the way to go, I put a new membrane in mine 12 months ago (last one was in for 5 years) we check it every week, takes water from 280 to 007.  I've also fitted a 35" DI in line before it goes into 2 x 1000 ltr holding tanks which takes it down to 000.  The resin in there have been in for around 6 months and still gives 000.  Waste water ratio is around 1:1

All I have in the vans now is a tank, pumps and small DI's for piece of mind, the guys fill up at the end of each day and the 2 holding tanks are full again by the morning.

At 44ppm you will be getting through 13000 Litres per month  :o
Are you sure of your figures, thats an awful lot!

If so then you need an industrial unit.

Ya,... I must remember to do that,...  ;D ;D ;D ;D

18 months & I've changed the pre-filters twice. I don't use a lot of water though.
